Hi everyone--
I've wanted to go to Wharton since middle school and am determined to get there! (I'm a junior so I won't be applying till next year)
I have pretty strong academics (98 GPA on 100 scale, most rigorous courseload available, 750+ on SAT IIs etc) but was wondering if my ECs are adequate.

I have leadership positions at the local, state, and national level within a large organization for the democratic party (YDA). I've been student gov't VP for the past two years, class VP for three years, and am general member of international club and key club.

I received a scholarship to spend time in DC lobbying for a bill that I've been instrumental in passing for the past three years. That same summer I participated in a leadership retreat for women (very competitive 50/30,000 applicants were accepted). I'm applying to a business program for this upcoming summer but don't think I'll necessarily get in, as it's geared towards URMs.

As you can see, my listed ECs are geared towards politics.. will this be okay even though I'm applying to Wharton? My understanding is that politics and business go hand-in-hand.. afterall, both emphasize leadership. I'd love your opinion, however!

I would like to know this too. I am varsity captain of the swim team (leadership) and treasurer of DECA. but we know DECA is bs

Are you treasurer on a national board or at the school/local level?-- i’m unfamiliar with DECA but since it has to do with marketing/ business so I think you’re better off than I am!

the title was meant to say “opinions”… please don’t harass my grammer haha

You’ll be fine. They look for leadership, not just business ec’s. Explain your passion for leadership, politics, and business in your essay. Don’t worry TOO MUCH about it now…you have a year to decide if Wharton truly is the right place for you. But it is good that you are thinking about college now.

No you definitely do not need to have business ECs, although you need to be able to explain why you’re interested in going to an undergrad business program

It could be fine if you tie politics and business into your Why Penn essay. There is a concentration within Wharton that deals with business politics. It would be good if you mentioned this because it would show your past with politics and that you are informed about Wharton.
