Opportunities at UCI vs Cal Poly Pomona

I got into Cal Poly Pomona with a computer science major (I might change it to other engineering based field, i think)
My family thinks I should do community and then transfer to UCI or any other good UC as UC's not only have good resources but more internship and job opportunities.
For instance, if there is someone applying for job from cal poly pomona vs like uci/ucsd then due to the reputation the uc one has a better chance. I kinda agree but what would you suggest??
I am basically investing on my future when I go to college so I want to make sure I invest in the best possible thing. And I don't mind going to community if it means getting higher opportunities in the long run.

I know this is on the UCI page, but please try to be unbiased.

First of all, it’s pretty hard to change to an engineer major. Cal Poly Pomona is undoubtely a better engineering school than UCI plus undergrad program with CPP is more hands on which means you’ll learn better. The UC system is more research-based and from what i’ve heard, they recommend you to go to grad school after. Second, companies tend to look for students from CSUs because they’re more skilled, not that UC students are not, but the way CSUs teach them is somewhat better. If you look for reputation, then go to a UC. If you’re not then Pomona would do just fine.

“undoubtely a better engineering school” and “you’ll learn better” are generalizations. To be as unbiased as possible, I will say that Cal poly pomona will give you a more hands on approach, and UCI will be more theoretical. Cal Poly Pomona, however, may skip out on certain theoretical concepts and go straight to the how-to part of things, which may be good in practicality, but could hurt you in the long run as your work gets more complex, and your work becomes more theoretical. Both are fine schools and will likely earn you a job (contrary to what was said, I doubt that companies look at students from CSUs instead of UCs as, based on admittance rates, UCs usually have higher caliber students then CSUs). I personally chose UCI over Cal Poly Pomona because a business oriented city like UCI will likely have a lot of internships for Computer Science people, which will lead into work experience which could give you a higher chance of being employed. Also, I like the UCI area.

UCI has better CS while Cal Poly Pomona has better engineering.

Which would you choose for Aerospace Engineering…UCI, Cal Poly Pomona or Cal Poly SLO?

I would pick SLO

SLO ranks in the top 5 for Aerospace Engineering where doctorate degree is not offered.

What are your guys thoughts on attending UC Santa Cruz for computer engineering? I plan on attending Santa Cruz for 2 years then transfer to UC LA or UC SD. I would have gone to a CC but I’d get more units in if I go to UC Santa Cruz then transfer after 2 years to another UC.

Thanks for the replies…still have until 6/1 to SIR for the UC’s.
