This is my first post here, so I hope in in the right place! I apologize in advance if I’m not! Anyway, though, I have a quick question. Last year, my school started a ‘cohort’ program with other schools in our area that allows students to gain college credits through our local community college. Basically, they offer three classes a week (Tues, Wed, Thurs) at another centralized high school during our first/second period classes. They’re offering World History and Accounting in the fall and US History, English, and another class that is still being decided upon in the spring. The World History credit will count for my Social Studies Grade 11 credit and the English for my English Grade 12 credit (We are forced to take English 11 because it is Capstone Communications). A drawback is that we don’t get to pick and choose, we have to take all of these classes and they’re are not any other options. However, the price is only $50 a credit. They are also offering this senior year, but I believe it is with six classes instead of five. From what I’ve heard from them, I would graduate with ~30 credits.
The reason I am asking about this is because I have no idea whether or not I should take this opportunity. I’m a sophomore and my parent’s (who both didn’t go to college) oldest child, so I am very confused/not familiar with anything to do with college courses/credits. I know some colleges will not transfer my credits, but will the credits help or hurt me in the application process? Is this worthwhile? Or should I not bother and simply wait until college to take college courses? Thanks in advance!
