Opportunity to Visit Pomona College

I’m so sorry to hear that this happened to several posters (as well as some of my friends). It seems that Pomona accidentally sent out a rejection to everyone who applied for the 2nd trip. As for:

-Why not everyone was compensated: A significant number of low-income students applied for this trip, all of whom needed travel covered. Furthermore, Pomona does take location into consideration for who they select. There’s a scarcity of Southern applicants who apply- they usually get first priority after the low income students.

Furthermore, it’s not just 30/250 who were admitted. That was for this weekend. They admitted 30 from the last weekend as well.

-Why notifications are sent out so late. This is a problem and it needs to be changed. I will talk to admissions on this matter, as it’s bad for Pomona (the tickets cost more) and for the students (who have little time to plan ahead). The thing was that this year the number of applications rose significantly, so processing took longer. Rest be assured, if you’re admitted in the spring and you’re invited to that Weekend, you get a card in your folder telling you in advance that there’s a program.

I hope that this does not impact your opinion on Pomona; the MSAP program is newer than the well established weekend programs in other schools. I’m certain that emailing admissions and sharing your frustration will help them improve communication in later years.

I feel for the kids and I know how hard they have worked to get this opportunity. That said, I am sure a number of them will be out in Cali in the Spring (hopefully with my DD) for the admitted students weekend.

No, my DD will not be attending the Wesleyan program. Wesleyan just popped on her list about a month ago. She dropped some state schools from her list and after doing some research took a strong interest in what Wesleyan had to offer.

Being from Texas we have concerns about travel and the weather. Her trip to Scripps was relatively easy, so I would be interested to see if a trip to Middleton would be as uneventful. I will have to spend some time on the Wesleyan thread to learn more.

Thanks to all of you for getting the info out. Good Luck!

Our D is going to Wesleyan, Wescap. She went to Scripps also. She is looking forward to doing another type of fly in and going to a co-ed college for comparison on many levels. She just let go of Pomona recently…but received a rejection anyway (after calling and emailing to tell them to remove her application due to a conflict…which happens to be Wesleyan).

Pomona I agree messed up with this fly in on many levels. BUT it is a great college and will learn from the mishaps and do better next year!

My S hasn’t received his information as of yet (yay or nay). Good to hear others have the same concern. I figured if you hadn’t received an update it was a NAY. There is still hope!

Yes I am going to the WesCap program November 11th, I have been to Pomona and mey adcons x2 now, I will apply to both, u
