There have been a few threads with people interested in Carleton and other colleges which do not seem similar to Carleton at all. So I pose the question - what college do you think is the opposite of Carleton?

The military academies immediately jump to mind, probably because there was a thread this week from a second year West Point cadet who wants to transfer to Carleton. Another dissimilar LAC is Washington & Lee.

I’d say the University of Hawaii - Manoa. Don’t know how this is useful info, however.

No, this isn’t useful at all, just something for fun.

As for me, I’d say the opposite of Carleton is University of Phoenix.

What makes you say that?

St. Olaf - literally opposite to Carleton!

Carleton University

A walk through the looking glass…

The other Maize and Blue…University of Michigan.

The University of Michigan is focused on engineering and business classes. The student body is huge and focused on fraternities, sororities, and football games. Almost all students live off campus by their junior year. I don’t think a junior would be allowed to get a dorm room if they wanted to at umich.

I never cared about football when at Carleton, but I enjoyed Umich football…even during very mediocre seasons like this year. During half of my time at Carleton, I don’t even think I was aware Carleton had a football team.

Ironically, many Carls, like myself, end up going to grad school at umich. I think one of my roommates from Carleton did too.

Reed College - 100% weirdos

This thread… this thread is not very useful.

rhg - That’s neither correct nor kind.

PolarBear - not all threads are useful. This is just a bit of diversion during the waiting period. I’m enjoying the various ways “opposite” can be interpreted.

How about Bob Jones U? Or Wheaton in Illinois?
