<p>Anybody enter this? The deadline was yesterday and I ended up submitting an essay, but I suck at English:( Hopefully, it will be good enough. Winner gets a free trip to Chicago.</p>
<p>i almost did it, but i was turned off by the fact that there was no real scholarship money, only a trip to her show in Chicago.</p>
<p>It is kinda weird that it's only a trip to Chicago instead of a scholarship. I'm not complaining though!</p>
<p>Yeah, it was weird because our english teacher had planned the whole class around a theme of oppression. We read night at the beginning of January and then Oprah announced it like a week later. It was really weird how it worked out...it's a college class though, so most of my classmates couldn't enter. I ended up writing the essay, but didn't get the benefit of having a teacher to help me edit it/ offer opinions. </p>
<p>I read on the internet that their were teachers forcing their students to enter the contest and modfying the curriculum so that they'd have time to edit the essays, discuss them, etc...I thought that was a little unfair for an essay contest, but I guess life's not always fair ;)</p>
<p>i hope you win. there are like 50 winners, so i wouldn't sweat it. </p>
<p>and, i used to live in chicago and i've been to the Oprah show already, so it is like nothing new for me.</p>
<p>i entered that, too, but I was really struggling with the topic, so I guess we'll just see....results should be in awfully soon since the trip is in a little over two weeks. :) GOOD LUCK!!</p>

<p>Knowing Oprah (It's kind of funny how i'm saying this since I've never met her), there will probably be some HUGE surprise if/when you get on the show.</p>

<p>Well yeah however the essay wasn't about analyzing the book in depth or anything you'd do in your APLit classes. It was about applying the major premises in the book to current events or something along those lines.</p>
<p>I haven't heard a thing...kinda worried...I wanted to go meet Oprah :)</p>
