For my common app essay, I took one of the optional essay topics and ran with it beyond the 400 word limit that Tufts asks for.
But now, I don't want to send my original common app essay to Tufts anymore, because I want to use my new version of the optional essay.
I took a design class, and I have a piece (on an 8 and a half by 11 inch sheet of paper) that I'm incredibly proud of.

My question is basically this, will my application be adversly affected since I'm submitting artwork instead of an essay? What do you think?

The optional essy is in addition to your other essay, and if i am recallling correctly, the last option says do whatever you want on a 8.5 x 11, including a music sheet. Can't see how artwork would be bad at all. But dont take my word for it. surely Dan can help.

Angel is most correct! It's in addition to what you'd be sending us otherwise, not in lieu of. And is correct, also, in saying that artwork is indeed within the scope of that question.

My one suggestion for navigating that question effectively is to remember that we're trying to get to know WHO YOU ARE, not trying to make an assessment on your artistic skills. Do your best to keep your submission reflective of your personality, identity, or intellectual characteristics.
