Optional Essay

I know that there is really no such thing as an optional essay for college admissions, but since the prompt is so general can anyone suggest what to write about for the supplement?

Here’s the prompt right of the Common App:

This essay is optional.
We are confident that the information you have submitted through the Common Application and our Brown Supplement will give us a full picture of who you are. However, if there is something we have not asked that you feel is specific to your candidacy at Brown, you may address that here. Please be judicious, and limit what you write to a paragraph or less.

In this case I think it really is optional.

In my daughter's case, she used this spot to talk about a language she'd studied outside school that she hadn't had a chance to mention elsewhere. If there's nothing you haven't covered, leave it blank.

Yeah, definitely, don't write something there unless you have something really important or extra special to say--otherwise, it's just extra stuff the admissions officers have to read.
