I was considering submitting this quirky essay I've written as my optional essay. It doesn't reveal any deep, further information about myself or any of that, it just demonstrates my writing and is pretty funny. Is this a bad idea? I don't wanna look like a smart ass...

What makes it quirky?

Well it’s narrative about my experience with Nutella. Yes, the chocolate spread. It’s just quirky because of the way I wrote it. I addressed it like a serious subject and used a lot of purposeful exaggerations (hyperboles?) which when blended with its real meaning makes it funny.
I’m hoping it’ll be something that’ll stand out, but I don’t want to give the impression that I’m treating the application like a joke or anything.

Go for it! Harvard isn’t above humor and if it shows another facet of your personality, that helps.

Best of luck.

Can you chance me? I am reapplying after getting WL’d last year and currently taking a gap year. The link is below. I’d appreciate it and I’ll chance yours if you sent it to me. Thanks. Peace.
