Optional Form Responses

So...now that the postmark date for the optional update form has passed, what type of responses did all of you deferrees put on your form? I'm especially interested in the "What attraction does Stanford hold for you?" question.

We're almost there!!!! Just a few weeks left.

Hey, I forgot about it and sent an apolgetic email with what I've been doing to the admissions office just now. I figure it's worth a shot, considering that at least, it should arrive with some of the later letters.

What do you think? I seriously hope they add it to my file! Can't believe I forgot! :</p>

I did lots of stuff for the update form cuz i figure i have to do something significant to reverse the deferral decision. I wrote a different essay and asked them to replace my original, and then of course i did the obligatory listing of honors and whatnot.

I don't know if they'd add it to your file or not, phillryu. When I called them about a month ago they said that the only thing they will add to your file is the update form and nothing else, but since you didn't send an update form maybe they will add it to your file. Who knows?

I'm curious what other people talked about too.

I mentioned a few more awards I had recieved; merit finalist, presidential scholar candidate, a speech contest award. I discussed a mock congressional hearings competition I had been working on for the past couple of months (our team got 2nd in state). Under the pertinent info section I wrote my new Jan SAT II scores (my Math IIC went from 710 to 800, sad really how a week studying a book can boost a score so much). Then I said I wanted to attend Stanford because they had such good programs in engineering and law, my two primary interests.

I wish I had been a bit more specific, but I think I conveyed my desire to attend Stanford. I couldn't decide if they would find the "I <3 Stanford" cute or pathetic so I left it out ;)

I was pretty honest in why i wanted to go to Stanford. I really like the idea of a laidback atmosphere and nice weather and very little grade competition compared to ivies. Just makes it seem like college is all about the learning experience and not just the resume-building. thats what i said at least.

Same here. I talked about new things I've been doing and new awards I've recieved since I sent my application in late October. I also stressed my desire to major in classics at Stanford, and how important the academics/athletics combination at the school was for me.

Does anyone here think that an awesome update form would be enough to get someone into Stanford? I sent a lot of really exciting, important things along with a new (hopefully improved) essay. Do you think that would be enough to put me in the admit pile if I was just the average deferee before that? My rank went up one point too. (Taking 6 AP's)

well, i hope the update form has a good deal of bearing on the 'sway' of the application...im counting on it too :)

Well, if you sent in a lot of other things they probably won't add them to your file. The admissions lady I talked to on the phone said they would ONLY add the form itself to the file, but who knows, maybe they will consider it?

well i put all my answers on a separate sheet of paper so hopefully they wont ONLY add the form cuz all it says is "see attached page" lol. I attached a note to my essay asking them to replace the old one if necessary though, so hopefully they at least did that.
