I saw that in the optional report in the common app there was a spot where you could put your gpa and rank from a certain point to another certain period. I failed a class junior summer, so would I be able to submit this optional report with my rank and gpa from freshman year to the end of junior year, which was pretty good. Can I use this to show that I was in really good academic standing before that failed class (already explained that it was a fluke). Could I use the optional report for this, or can I not use it for this?

Are you talking about the Optional Report for your counselor to submit? The answer is no. That isn’t a form the applicant should complete or submit under any circumstances. Its purpose is to provide further or changed information after the counselor submits the originally completed School Report.

Schools will see from your transcript(s) that your cumulative GPA is brought down by a single low grade and if you have already explained that grade, you have provided all the information necessary.
