Optional Statement

One of the schools that I'm applying to has a section entitled 'optional statement". I know I want to write something, but all they say is "Do you have anything more to add or share about you or your application?"
What should this be about? Should it be about grades, test score, or more like an essay?

Help me, please. :(

Don’t use it unless you actually have something more to say - something IMPORTANT that did not make it into your application elsewhere.

An essay. Read over your application and ask yourself - what haven’t I been able to tell the committee about myself?

My D wrote about authors and composers she liked and how their inspiration manifested itself in her life. She was able to convey a portion of her personality that the rest of the application might not have asked about.

Ok… Thanks

I’m in a similar situation. Would that be an appropriate place to write about how my faith has had an impact on my life? That’s really the biggest thing I feel the rest of my application failed to cover.

I’m not sure, I’m still sorta confused

If there’s something IMPORTANT that wasn’t covered elsewhere, then go ahead and include it. Don’t make it too long.

Isky, what is it you’re thinking you should include? If you really can’t think of anything, that’s fine. No reason to make your application any longer than you need to. Remember, the person reading these is probably exhausted . . . he or she has read hundreds of applications. So adding something extra just to “fill the space” really isn’t going to do you any favors. If you have something to say, then say it. If not, then stop while you’re ahead.

if you want, and if you haven’t covers this much in your other essays, talk about why you chose that college. what appealed to you? that’s what I would do

Well I’m pretty sure that I’m going to get into the school so I don’t want to ruin my chances by adding something unneeded but at the same I don’t want to seem like I don’t care.

No, leaving it blank does NOT mean you “don’t care.” :)

Every CA has an Addl Info section and plenty of highly qualified kids leave it blank. If you don’t have something very relevant to add, don’t force it. It’s not extra credit. It can garble things. Make your best decision.

Ok, thank you everyone :)
