I haven't opened up my SunTrust FSUCard account with my financial aid yet so I need to do that as soon as I go up to Tallahassee next week. I need a meal plan though and I want to get the deferment plan to use my financial aid. When do I order ir though? They ask for my FSUCard number but I haven't opened my account yet and I don't want them to returned my check or anything...

Your FSU card number is just a number, an FSU ID number. The Suntrust account is a separate fee-free bank account tied to the card. But your checking account number is not the same as your FSU number. It is similar, and the FSU card page on the FSU website will tell you how to drop the first digit, etc. If you have a picture ID FSU card, you can give anyone the card number and it does not effect your bank account. The ID card has a magnetic strip that is used to identify you entering buildings, etc, and the card can be used as a debit card for your Suntrust account, but you don't have to open an account if you don't want to, but it makes sense to do so, and you get access to your financial aid money sooner. The card has two separate fuctions as an ID card and a bank card. And if you load the chip, it is also a smart card and that is a separate function as well using cash to load.

(The FSU ID number is on secure apps if you don't have your picture ID yet.)

You can order your meal plan online, or in person during the week before classes. I think you have until one week into classes to purchase it, but waiting means you will loose meals that you pay for if you chosse one of the meals/week plans.

You can register online for your meal plan, but you have to pay a deposit, so you do not want to give your bank account number to pay the deposit if you don't have an account yet. You CAN give your FSU ID number and pay the deposit with a credit card, or wait until you get there and pay with a check. When you give just the FSU card ID number, you are just identifying yourself. It is not until you give the Suntrust account number that you use the card to pay for something.

I hope that made sense!

Yeah that made sense.. thanks! :) But one more thing, can you use financial aid for your deposit? Like I want to use financial aid for my meal plan but since I haven't opened my account I can't use it yet. I want financial aid to cover the whole meal plan.. so what do I do? When do I order it?

I ordered it today. Made me pay the deposit (for the deferment plan) with either a visa or mastercard, so i dunno.I tried looking for an option to pay with my finaid money, but couldn't find it.

You should click this option on the seminoledining.com website:
"Financial Aid Deferment

A down payment of $350 is due upon signing up ($300 deposit towards meal membership and $50 processing fee for the entire contract year). You will be required to provide any amount of money that is not covered by your financial aid. A $300 deposit is due for the Spring 2009 semester no later than November 15, 2008."

Call them. The website pretty much says you have to pay a deposit now and of course you will get that back when the financial aid comes in, but I distinctly remember at orientation that a gentleman spoke about a fax to Seminole Dining with your financial aid info, and if you show you are getting enough money to cover tuition, housing and dining, you may not need to pay the deposit. But you will need to call and clarify. There are no special exception options online.

They will only grant you a deferment if you are getting equal to or more than $4500 per SEMESTER. just in case someone was wondering.

Even if you are receiving more than $4500 a semester in financial aid, you still have to pay the $350 deposit up front. I called and spoke to 3 or 4 different people and got the same answer.
