FSU Banking

Ok, so another question from a confused freshman:

So, you can link up your FSUcard with a SunTrust account so your financial aid refund can go straight there electronically. But the website says that you can only use the money on this card at CERTAIN merchants where the FSU logo thing is, not anywhere where Suntrust is accepted. So, my question is.. Should I just get a check mailed to me with my refund?

I already have a Regions bank account and I know that they have a Regions ATM on campus, so I want to keep that account and put my fin aid money in there. I just don't see the put of having $1000+ on a card that I apparently can't use everywhere, like if I travel, and probably not online either.

If I can use the FSUcard money ANYWHERE Suntrust is open, then that'd be perfectly fine.

So, do I have it wrong? Do most people just go with the electronic deposit of fin aid funds to their Suntrust account? OR can I like have them electronically send it to my Regions account? I guess I could have them send it to my on the FSUcard and withdrawal that money and put it on my Regions..

Your FSUCard can only be used in certain places that accept it. When you open the SunTrust account, you will get a SunTrust Check Card (MasterCard) that is accepted anywhere Mastercards are accepted.

The ONLY Financial Aid EFT that FSU does is to the FSUCard/SunTrust account- no other bank. If you choose to not do this, they mail you a check, which can take time. There’s always a line at the SunTrust ATMs on Financial Aid disbursement day of people going to the ATM and withdrawing their financial aid money, to put in their other accounts.

Since even FSU doesn’t recommend getting a check mailed to you (obviously, the main reason is the inherent delay in this, which can take up to a couple weeks), I don’t think anyone really should recommend it. The SunTrust account is free, and there’s a billion SunTrust ATMs and branches around not just Tally, but also pretty much all of Florida and the Southeast.

I’ve never had an issue using my Suntrust card anywhere- online or in a store.

Ohhh ok so they send you a regular Suntrust card in the mail which you can use pretty much anywhere. They honestly didn’t have that on their website. Thanks! That helped.
