I've been looking through the CMU bookstore to find my textbooks..
I was able to find textbooks for classes, 21-120, 33-106, 76-101;

however, I could not find textbooks for 18-100, intro to elec-comp eng. and 99-101 (mini computing class).

Do professors post the textbooks that we need on the website?
When is the absolute last day for me to get the textbooks?

Also, for classes like calc, and physics, what are either/or books? Do I need to get them?
How about the study-aid books?

I apologize for the flood of questions in a single post...
Thanks in advance for all the replies to come

I would love for someone to explain the either/or to make sure I understand it correctly. I called the bookstore yesterday and asked what was included. For example, the textbook for 18-100 that you mentioned is under ECE. It lists Fundamentals of Elect. Eng. (required), Fundamentals of Elect. Eng.+Schaums Outline (either/or) and Basic Electrical Engineering-Schaum (study aid). The bookstore told me that the second one (Fund.of Elec.Eng+Schaums) is a package of the first and third one so if you have neither you would get the package. If you bought/borrowed the first book from someone who had it last year, then you would need to buy the third one which is the Schaums and the same if you have the Schaums, you would need to just buy the first one which is the Fund. of Elec.Eng. Since we had neither, we ordered the second one.

It is really confusing. The person at the bookstore seemed to know what they are talking about, but if anyone knows anything different or did this last year and has some experience, please post and help. Thanks!

Forgot - I asked about 99-101 and he said there was not a book.

You do not need a textbook for 99-101 because it’s a mini pass/fail course about computing at CMU - it’s to get you familiar with the CMU network, so there isn’t a textbook for it.

Generally, if there is no textbook listed for a course, that means you don’t need a textbook for that class. There is no deadline, per se, for getting a textbook, but if the first homework assignment comes out and you need to do a few book problems and you don’t have the book yet, well, then you gotta find someone who does. Calc textbook is the same for I think all of the courses, and Physics is different for Science and Engineering majors. Professors will usually tell you on a syllabus which book you need exactly on the first day.
