Orders of schools for TAG UCSD HELP!!?

I'm gonna transfer as an econ major to ucsd and wanted to know how i should number the colleges. Anybody have an idea? I really need help!

Thanks

Well, I’m not sure about econ (or TAG for that matter), but when I applied as a bioeng major I put…

Muir (least amount of requirements, if you don’t put Muir first, you probably won’t get it)

EW (I forget why)

Revelle (since I was a science major, I covered a lot of the gen-ed)

TM

ER

6th (doesn’t have much of an identity yet)

Overall, I picked the colleges that had similar requirements to what I have already completed. Since I had a lot of UD classes for my major, I wanted to keep GE breadth classes at a minimum. I think TM & ER were more liberal-arts-ish.

It depends on what you are interested and if you have the IGETC done.

If you will have the IGETC complete when you transfer your top choices should be Muir, Marshall, Warren, or Sixth if you want to avoid more GE’s. They require very little out of transfers with the IGETC done. Revelle makes you take additional humanities courses (HUM - humanities) and Roosevelt makes you take additional history classes (MMW - making of the modern world) even with IGETC certification.

In order to rank the colleges you should know a little about them…

Muir - the independent spirit of UCSD’s six college system. They let you decide your own course of study to satisfy GE’s. This is the most popular of the six colleges and if you want Muir, even just a little, put it as your top choice or you will not get in.

Warren - a favorite among engineering majors (mainly due to it’s proximity to the Jacob’s school of engineering). It’s focus is on obtaining a balance between the maths and physical sciences and social sciences and thus your GE’s will consists of both hard science and humanities-esque courses.

Sixth - the newest of the six colleges (obviously). It’s focus is on integrating creativity and art into technology and science. Sixth has GE’s specific to the college called CAT classes i.e. Culture, Art, and Technology. As cool as that sounds, I’ve heard mixed reviews about the classes.

Roosevelt (ERC) - formerly known as fifth college, ERC takes its values from its namesake Mrs. Roosevelt. With or without IGETC complete you must take classes from the MMW history series. If you’re into history at all, you’ll love it here.

Thurgood Marshall - Emphasizes the importance of liberal arts to one’s career in any major. GE’s appear pretty broad here but seem to focus on philosophy, math, culture, and political science.

Revelle - My personal fave, I am a new Revellian. The first of the six college established at UCSD, Revelle strives to create the renaissance man/woman. Revelle tends to attract science majors and believes in the importance of a well-rounded student. The GE’s here force non-science majors to take more science and math and science majors to take more social studies classes. Revelle makes incoming transfers to take classes from the Humanities series with or without IGETC certification.

Do as much research as possible before ranking the colleges and make sure the values of the colleges you want align with that of yourself. I’m happiest with Revelle. I like that they force me to take the extra humanities courses, because I would never make the time to do so as an engineering major and I do believe it’s important to stay grounded and have a broad GE foundation.

Choose what it going to be the most beneficial for you personally. Hopefully the information I provided helps.

You should search this website. There are a lot of different threads that talk about the advantages/disadvantages of all the UCSD colleges. No need to start a new one  or a quick google search will lead you there as well.

Muir, Marshall and Sixth requires you to take writing course.
choose Warren unless you love writing.
