Organic Chemistry?? CHEM 3570

Hello,

I'm currently a student in CHEM 3570 with Professor Ganem. I realized that this was definitely not my best strength in terms of doing well in a course...

After two years in college I still seem to be a little iffy in understanding the whole mean/standard deviation process...

If I receive a score a outside a standard deviation of the mean, does that mean I fail? What if the score is two standard deviations outside the mean?

I already dropped the course once and I am getting nervous as the final is coming closer...

Since no one has responded yet, I thought I’d give it a try. I believe that if you are two standard deviations below the mean, it is time to speak with the professor about preparing for success on the final. I am assuming you already know the breakdown of how much each exam that you have already taken counts for, so I would calculate what you will need as a minimum grade on the final to pass.

You probably already know all of this, but my older D faced a similar scenario and I really wish she had faced up to it listened to the professor’s advice. (She did not go to Cornell.)

Best of luck to you.

I’m assuming you mean that you’re scoring x stddev’s BELOW, rather than ABOVE the mean?

1 Stddev below the mean, may mean anywhere between a B- to C something.
2 Stddev below the mean, would be around a low C to D.

If I remember correctly, orgo is curved to a B+, which means if you score the mean, you’ll receive a B+.
