Organizations!

What are the different clubs and organizations you can join at FSU? I was planning of joining the SGA and some international club. What are some nice clubs/organizations over there?

Look for Dance Marathon. This is the largest student run philanthropy at FSU. There are lots of committees, an overall committee, a management team and an overall director–all students. There are activities year-round, culminating in a weekend in February where students stand during one of two 20 hour shifts at the event at the Civic Center. It is a huge “Party with a Purpose.” There is a huge line dance/morale dance for the first 15 minutes of every hour. There is food, games, computer stations, entertainment, you name it. The year-round effort raises money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The money benefits local children in Tallahassee, for care and support locally and at Shands, the nearest CMN Hospital. Last year students raised an amazing $494,000. There were 1500 dancers and nearly 1000 support persons participating during DM weekend. Miracle families also come and tell their stories during the marathon event, including families where a parent danced at DM, only to return years later to share that their child and family were now on the receiving end of CMN support.

The first year you usually participate as a dancer. Then you work on a committee, and then you can run for committee or management. It is a great organization, and the comradery and networking is amazing.

Look for a booth at Orientation. There will be a dancer drive in the fall. Watch for announcements at dm.fsu.edu. Ask to be friends with “DanceMarathon FSU” under people, and Like the page “Dance Marathon at FSU” to stay in touch.
If you participate, your life will be changed. It is a moving experience.

omg this sounds amazing…surely i will try join this and look for a stall during orientation…

thanx for the suggestion!!! :)

Your welcome! PS my D is the Overall Director for 2012 (the website has not yet been updated.) Her involvement has changed her life, her major, and her career aspirations. Good luck!

There are many great organizations you can get I involved with. Also great for a freshman is to sign up for a Homecoming committee. Again, look for a table at orientation. Also join SAA, student alumni association. It is for students, not alumni. You get guaranteed seats for football, and there are great leadership opportunities as well. It’s like $20 a year or $60 for 4 years but you get a t-shirt every year, a week or two every semester when you save 10% at the bookstore, and more. With Homecoming and SAA you quickly get emerged into FSU traditions.
