I was wondering if anyone has any experience or info regarding any student -run dance companies/clubs or organizations offered on campus. We know about the dance marathon club but are having trouble finding other specific info about any other clubs. My d has danced all her life on a competitive dance ensemble as well as performed in many musicals as a dancer in high school. She s looking for something flexible that she could still do with nursing at least in the beginning before clinicals start junior year. She doesn't want to give up dance after all these years but needs something flexible. She might try to minor but isn't sure if that will work with nursing or not. We looked through the list of clubs but wondered if anyone had any personal experience or info they could share.

I think a minor would work. I’m triple majoring in business and still have plenty of room for a minor!

I hope someone with personal knowledge will respond. Under student organizations there is a Dance company, a latin dance club and a group called Off-Off broadway. Each has a contact email, though if contact is student you might not get a quick response over the summer. There is also a ballroom club listed under club sports. There is a student organization fair at the beginning of school year to check out clubs. I would also contact theatre and dance departments…they might know of other groups or opportunites geared toward students like your daughter who might not have time for formal classes.

Nc7777. Thanks… She is looking into the minor. She has to ask her advisor about it during orientation.
Scmom12… Thanks for the info… We did see the dance company listed but are trying to figure out if that is the one connected with the major or not… I’ll have her email some of those contacts and maybe she’ll get some info at orientation in June. Thanks!

I’ve been told by nursing friends that nursing majors aren’t allowed to minor. I’m not exactly sure how true this is, but I’d say it’s definitely important to double check.

If she’s interested in Off-Off Broadway, I’m pretty good friends with several of the members and could probably put her in direct contact with the main group. They put on a show every semester and they absolutely love it.

Off-Off Broadway is awesome. We perform our own student run musicals each semester, and we’re always looking for good dancers!

It is not a huge time commitment either (besides the week before and of the show). You can be in 1 number or 10. So theoretically you could be in the club and only have it take up 30 minutes of your week! I love being in the club, and everyone always says how much of a family we are.

/\Augirl. Thanks for that info about the minor . We did call the dept and were told to talk to advisor about it… The deot made it sound As if nursing deot has to ok it and I have the feeling they might frown upon it. It most likely conflicts with the junior and senior year with clinical schedule. Thanks for the off-broadway tip too. That sounds like it might be something she’d really enjoy! I know she d appreciate any contacts. Thanks for your help!

/\ NC7777. She would probably love that! I’m really sad too as she is presently in her last musical right now as a featured dancer and her last dance recital is coming up. She loves performing (sings in the ensemble scenes and in a concert choir too ) and its been such a huge part of her life! That club sounds like a good one for her! Is there a contact person you recommend? Thanks so much for the info!

I’m an officer of the club, so you could contact me. We will be at the student organization fair on Greene Street in August, and we will probably have our auditions either the second or third week of school!

/\ NC7777… Thanks so much !! I will pass that on to her!
