I was wondering what the most effect way of organizing college mail and various scholarship forms and such? Would a large section file case work? Or should I put it all in individual folders? What worked, or didn't work for you? Thanks!

I sorted my mail into keep, maybe, and recycle (most of it). Every week or so I'd go through and recycle or keep my "maybe" pile. My keep pile was fairly small, so I just put it in the closet. :)

I had piles on my desk (maybe that is why I missed most of my scholarship deadlines). If I could do it over again I would buy one big filebox and organize it in there. I organized the mail into two piles

I threw away most of my college mail because I had never heard of any of the schools that were contacting me.

Well first of all, throw away the mail from college you're not interested in. I kept everything for a few months until I realized it was futile, as the mass in my closet was threatening to overtake my entire stock of underwear.

What I did was bought one of those manila folder "holders" that you can put on top of your desk. It looks like a choir riser, if you know what I mean.

I had a folder for each of my schools, one for ACT, SAT, one for financial aid. I got a mobile full-ride scholarship, so my folder was fairly small, but you may need to divide yours into Gov't Aid and private aid.

I wrote on the front of my folders all the pertinent deadlines and required forms, checking them off as they were rec'd by my schools. Also, write your ID & password to the school's website on your folder!!!

This system worked well for me.
