I'm planning on doing pre-med/business. My schedule is packed, so it looks like I will have Orgo 2 in the second semester of my 3rd year. I heard for the MCAT Orgo2 is not needed. Is this true? I figure if it is an issue, I'll just wait another year... work, get some experience, then apply. Also, with this new MCAT, maybe they'll offer tests in the summer...

They will offer tests in the summer.

I don't know where you heard that the MCAT doesn't have 2nd semester OChem on it. But that is simply not true. I don't particularly remember the exact topics covered in second semester OChem, but I'm 100% sure there are second semester topics on there. Now, granted Organic is only 25% of the subject matter for the Biological sciences section, but given that BioSciences has a very steep curve, you do not want to be giving up points simply because you didn't take the course.

May I ask exactly how packed your schedule is (without giving a complete listing)? I realize that their is not a whole lot of crossover between business and pre-med, but the bare minimum pre-med path is only 11 courses (2 bio, 2 gen chem, 2 ochem, 2 physics, 2 english, 1 calc). Some schools will require a couple more (1 or 2 biochem, 1 genetics, another semester math), for a max total of 15. Just wondering if it is really impossible to get organic in during the normal sequence.

Most of organic chemistry is carboxylic acid reactions, which usually come about 3/4 through organic chemistry - or halfway into the second semester. Unless your school is very accelerated relative to that schedule, then yes, you need 2nd semester.

Heavy emphasis on carbonyl stuff which is typically covered in the 2nd semester.
