Orientation Experience!

Yeap... I had my orientation... And it went great!

Here's what we did all day long;

DAY ONE

*I reported to the Cole Field House (Activities Building) at 8:15AM with my luggage. I was then told by an Orientation staff member (students who are there to show you stuff around throughout orientation. They are always wearing a yellow shirt. Polo, t-shirt or whatever) to drop off my luggage at the Queen Anne's Hall, and then report back to the Cole Field House.
I went to Queen Anne's (was guided by another orientation staff member) and dropped off my luggage. I was given a card (with a number on it) so that I could claim my luggage later.

Waiting outside the Cole Field Building at 8:30AM

*8:30AM - 8:55AM: Check-in and Breakfast.
We stepped inside the Cole Field House Building. There were around 4 stalls right in front of us, and we were told to pick up our name stickers. So yeah, we checked in. Breakfast was served. Nothing big. Just a standing breakfast with bagels and orange juice on the menu. Maybe there were donuts, but I didn't really pay attention to them.

*9:00AM - 9:45AM: Welcome presentation
The welcome presentation was delivered. Very boring. The lady on the stage made everyone sleep. We were introduced to our Orientation staff leader and were divided into groups. The computer science students had a different group, the business students had a different one, and so on. Our OA was Katelyn (Computer Science, CMPS). It was the smallest group :) Just 5 students, including me :) We introduced ourselves to her and then stepped out of the building from the back entrance.

*10:00AM - 12:00PM: Meet your College.
Our OA gave us a campus tour. There is hell lotta walking. So yeah, get those joggers/snickers or whatever. We had to walk uphill and downhill all day. I think I did something to my leg. Some sorta muscle strain.

*12:00PM - 1:40PM: Lunch and Living Arrangements Rotations.
Lunch was served at the South Campus Diner (Dining Hall). An all you can eat. Pizzas, Subs, Burgers, Salads, Fruits, Donuts, Brownies, etc.
It was OK. Cant say it was a good lunch. But thats what you'll usually have if you are living on campus (south).
Then, the Department of Resident Life gave us a presentation on campus safety, dorms, and stuff like that. It was OK. Not much boring. Was definitely better than the welcome presentation.

*1:45PM - 2:20PM: Maryland 411 Video.
We saw the 411 Video. A fun video created by our own OAs. It was fun yeah! You'll learn about how to do stuff on campus and to know your ways.

*2:20PM - 3:40PM: Chill time.
We were scheduled to do something else during this time, but our OA was a fun person. We just played crazy games like question ball and stuff like that. And we spent the time asking her questions.

*3:45PM - 4:15PM: Involvement Sessions
There are four involvement sessions you can choose from.
-Greek Life
-How to get an A!
-Study Abroad
-Cultural Center and Organizations

Our group (CMPS) unanimously voted for the Study Abroad session. That was the worst decision we ever made. Its hell boring. We heard the 'How to get an A!' session was pretty interesting. So yeah, go there!

*4:30PM - 4:45PM: Check-in
We claimed our luggage and checked-in to our overnight dorm rooms. They are in the same building where you drop your luggage, Queen Anne's Hall. And w00t: The dorms are air-conditioned! Decent dorms. I liked it. Typical dorm room. Its always the person in front of your or behind you in the line who is your room-mate for the night.

*5:45PM - 6:30PM: New Student Welcome Dinner
We returned back to the Cole Field house for dinner. What an odd timing for dinner, but thats what they give you. Dont stuff yourself much, because there is an 'all you can eat buffet' later at night which they don't tell you about until later in the evening. So in this dinner, we had Pizzas and subs only. We were allowed to take ONE drink only. Thats it :) So dont stuff yourself, just take it as a evening snack!

*6:45PM - 10:30PM: Fun Stuff
We saw skits performed by our OAs (hilarious!), and we went to the Epply Recreation Center (CBS) for a visit. If you're taking your swimming suites with you, then this is the time to dive in :)
Either swim, or get a tour of the Recreation center. But you can actually do both. There is also ping pong, table football and stuff. You're not allowed to do stuff in the Recreation center. Its just a visit. So if you're planning to do badminton or weights or treadmill, then you're out of luck. The only thing you can do is swim, ping pong or table soccer...

*10:30PM - 12:00AM: Late night chill scene
Hangout with friends in the Queen Anne's Hall basement. Your OA will also tell you about the all-you-can-eat buffet here, so yeah go for it!

DAY TWO

*6:45AM: Wake-up call.
If you are planning to take a bath, then you better wake up early... Because everyone just wakes up at 6:45AM and then the showers are full.

*8:00AM - 8:55AM: Breakfast
Report to the Stamp Student Union for breakfast.
Menu:
-Either baggels or orange juice OR
-Egg McMuffin / Egg and Cheese McMuffin + Hash Brown + Orange Juice from McDonalds :) If your breakfast total is over $2.79, then you gotta pay the extras. But even if you take everything from McDonalds, it still doesn't go above $2.79.

*9:00AM - 1:00PM: College Advising and Registration
Meet with your adviser and register for classes. Our group's strength was just five, so we got done in just around 20 minutes. Other groups took over three hours :D As we got done with registration early, our OA took us to the Stamp Student Union Book Shop and we did lots of crazy stuff. We went to the TERP ZONE... Played pool... Billiards... Bowling YAAAAY!

We then went to the Mitchell Building, got ourselves photographed and got our ID Cards made :)

After Registration is your lunch... Again at the South Campus Diner. Menu is the same!

We got off at 2:00PM!

Glad you enjoyed your experience! I'm sad I don't work program anymore.

I remember that how to get an A seminar. It sucked.

All those seminars really depend on who the presenters are....some are a lot better than others.

There was this presenter at the Study Abroad session... Asher was the name... Hilarious guy... 'like, like, like' hahahhaa!
If someone here went to the study abroad session, they know what I'm talking about...

Thanks for your detailed schedule of what you did during orientation - that was a lot more information than we got out of our son at the end of day two!!! ;)
