I recently was confirmed to attend freshman orientation at my college (includes course registration) in late June. However, I know AP exam results aren't available until July. I took 6 exams this year and whether or not I get credit for them will affect my course registration. My parentsw, however, refuse to reschedule orientation because they think (most likely correctly) that this will limit my chances of getting into certain classes. What should I do? Do colleges get AP exams before the July 1st "official" date?

Thanks.

This is a very early orientation! Email the dean or the admission office and ask your question. Will you be able to place out of certain classes thanks to your AP scores? Can you alter your course selection after AP scores are received? Will you get credit for your AP scores, and so on.

at my school we had the same situation with ib scores (come out on the 6th). At the state school (uw) that most of us will be attending, a friends mom called the school and the school said we could just sign up for the classes that we could (i.e. intro classes) so we could secure a spot and then when our scores come out we can go back and register for the rest of our classes since those classes would probably not be in as such high demand. This probably doesn't apply at all schools but you should give them a call. hope this helps

I have this problem too. I'm sure that the advisors know how to deal with this--maybe they'll have you make 2 tentative schedules or leave options, I don't know. But they know what they're doing. After all, you're not the first person who's taken an AP before! Like Marite said, though, if you're worried you should call/email them.

S will have this problem as well, his orientation is June 9.We were told to bring documentation of prior year AP scores and they will try to gauge his pending results. The important thing is to do your initial registration in a timely fashion for your school,so you are in their system, then you can adjust it as needed after your actual scores are in.

My experience was that I had to register based on what I thought I would get on the APs. If I had guessed wrong I would have had to change my schedule later. Also, I'm not sure going to an earlier orientation session hurts your chances of getting classes, at the university I went to, there were an equal number of spots blocked for each session (in intro classes at least, upper levels were a different story I think.)

AP scores are available by phone on July 1 for most tests and are mailed by mid-July to the schools the student has designated, the student and his/her high school. AP credit policies vary by college/university: http://apps.collegeboard.com/apcreditpolicy/index.jsp. It is important to check the policy for the student's college and take all relevant earlier scores to orientation if it falls before the scores release date. I am an academic advisor at a public university which registers 3500 students between June 5 and July 14. We see an increasing number of students who have taken AP tests, but they often know whether they have achieved a 4 or a 5 in a given subject before the scores are available. I work with each of my students to make the best schedule for them. When the scores come in we then adjust their schedules accordingly.
