Spots are filled up on a first come-first serve basis! I recommend signing up early, the earlier you sign up, the more options for class times and professors will be available!
Is it the case that classes are filled based on when students attend orientation, and that those who go to a later orientation can get locked out of classes?
Based upon what we were told last year, some spaces in classes are reserved for students who go to later orientation sessions so it is not merely first come first served. I still recommend going early.
The classes themselves wont go away, they keep some reserved as @2135ar said, however if one wants preferential class days, class location, and professor, then signing up early is a must! Keep in mind it’s no guarantee though, it only increases the chances of receiving it. I completed orientation 30 minutes earlier before receiving an invitation via email to register so try the link, if i doesn’t work it should soon! Keep in mind you must have already accepted your offer on WA and created a student account by April 1st in order to receive an email today/tomorrow. If you accepted after April 1st, then the orientation email will come 1 week after the offer has been accepted and student account has been made!
They were clear at Campus Day that a spread of class spaces AND times are available at every orientation, intentionally. And it’s possible to not get the day/time/class you want at any orientation, when you’re a freshman. No need to make people crazy.
Jazz, thank you for that info. My very anxious D was convinced that class registration was first-come, first-served, which, of course, would be unconscionable.
They do reserve some spots for later registration, but it does not mean they would do that proportionally. So I would still recommend early registration. The only disadvantage is that you need to guess your AP scores from senior as they will not be available till July. If you make a wrong guess, then you need to change your class later on.
Agree with @billcsho. At the nursing session during campus day they told us that the reason that all of the nursing orientations are in June is that with the tight ( no room for many options) schedules nurses have this is the only way for them to ensure the nursing students get the classes they need. They said while some spots reserved later the earlier the better in general.
Can someone tell me where students stay at orientation if arriving the night before from out of town (sans parent - we’re not sure we’re going, and my very independent son doesn’t seem to mind). There is a box to check for an extra night of accommodation (the night before it starts), but no info on how late they can arrive, etc. If anyone knows, please illuminate
@jazzshreddermom - It is my understanding that students arriving a day early stay in the dorm – East Quad, I believe. I suggest you call the Office of New Student Programs. Phone: (734) 764-6413.
@jazzshreddermom. Call the office of new student events. I’ve had very good experiences with them. They should be able to help. Perhaps there will be some sort of RA who can help your son get into his dorm room.
