Are classes getting too full to sign up for?

I've heard that it is best to have your orientation earlier than later, because the classes you want to take might fill up, and you would be screwed. I made the unfortunate mistake of deciding to have mine on August 25-26, but I changed it to August 18-19 just to be safe. The site that lets you change your orientation date (<a href="https://depts.washington.edu/fyp/regapp/autumn/incomingfrosh.php%5B/url%5D">https://depts.washington.edu/fyp/regapp/autumn/incomingfrosh.php</a>) won't let me go any earlier than Aug. 18-19.

I know that you can pay a $20 fee to change it to a date within two weeks from now, but the site didn't have the option to select that so I called the office at 206-543-4905 and they said if the option isn't on there, then that probably means the other dates are already full.

I just want to know, am I freaking out for nothing? Will the classes I'm most interested in (probably Math 124, French 201, and Econ 200) be full by the 18th of August?

probably not.. don't orientations go all the way up to september 20's? august 18th is still fairly early as comapred to the september ones..

im going to orientation on the 7th of august.. ill check for you

If you were cleaver and could figure it out without going to orientation, I'm pretty sure it is possible to register right now or any time. Registering is all done through MyUW and isn't extremely tricky to figure out. They do show you how to do it and everything and walk you through everything for you to do it at the session, but if you are worried and you know which classes you want to take it couldn't really hurt to do it now. nothing is permanent and you can always change it during the orientation if you find something out that you wanna change or anything. and if you don't want to register quite yet, you can still use MyYW to check on the status of classes and how many spots are available. If a class is almost full, just register for it, but if it's not really full you can just keep an eye on it and wait till orientation to do it.

To find Registration in MyUW find the box titled "Student Personal Services" and click the link that says "Registration". In the window that comes up, I believe it prompts you to check a few boxes and stuff and then once you're done with that and you're on the registration page, You'll find a box on the right with some links. Click on whichever one you want to brows through the different classes and FIGS and stuff. When you find the courses you want, you'll notice if it is highlighted in gray it's closed. You might as well just check to see if the classes are full and not register till orientation unless it is very close to full.

Have any questions? just ask. (o:

Actually, you can't register before orientation. Doubt there's a way around it...good luck.
I just had my orientation. Most classes are still there, but a few that I want are already full...especially the quiz sections.
Don't wanna stress you out but yeah, there will probably be more than a fair share of classes that are all filled up by the time you can register.

Why can't you register before orientation? do they not activate the function on your MyUW account until registration or something? I would think everyone would be able to, but I'm not sure because I had my orientation at the beginning of the month and i didn't check beforehand if i could.

mine is going to be on the sept 15th.. its the A&O for international student.. so i guess i'll not have many options then...

Again, I didn't waste time trying to find a way to beat the system, but they don't let you register before your orientation.

kevinatrs, you're seriously the 2nd person that i know having the same a&o as mine! do u have facebook? maybe we can talk through it.

Yea classes are filling up, i wasnt able to register for certain figs because they were already full. my a&o was july 21 and 22
