My son will be a freshman in the honors college. I’ve been looking at the various honors seminars being offered and it looks like the majority of them are already full and have a wait list started. He will be attending the honors orientation session on 06/09 and 06/10, but will it be too late by then for him to get into any honors seminars for the first semester? Or do freshman normally not take honors seminars first semester for this reason (already filled by the time they have orientation)? Does the wait list work the same as for other classes - i.e. do students ever come off of it?

It will not be too late for him to get into an honors seminar. Last year at my daughter’s honors orientation (which was late June) we were told that they open new spots for the honors seminars at each orientation. I would suggest your son pick several different seminars that he would be interested in taking, because his first choice still might not be available to him when he registers. And yes, freshman do take seminars first semester. My daughter took one, I don’t think it was her first choice, but it was definitely in her top 3. She really enjoyed the class. I’m not really sure about the wait list for these classes, since they are small classes.

Do all Honors students sign up for honors seminars/H-version classes or is this specific to UHP

Good grief. My D doesnt’ do orientation until July 12. But that’s the only set of dates that would work. Fingers crossed.

@lenmonster, you should be fine. Everyone who is a current student that needed that course has already done course selection/sign-up, so all those seats left in all those sections are for incoming freshman/transfers that need them.

@MitchKreyben - honestly no need to worry. July 12 is in the middle of orientation dates - it’s not really late like the one my friend’s son did a few years back and was upset over having to take a few 8 am classes (but part of “having” to take the 8 am may have been to a lack of understanding/fear of the waitlist). My son is more of a risk taker, so I learned by watching him. He was calm, but I was a little freaked at first myself…

@tommyguns - I think all honors students have to take some honors courses, but they will go over that with you at orientation.
