Hello,

How does rooming for Orientation work? I am going with my friend on the same day so is there a way to room in Jennings together?

Also, is it cheaper to get a meal plan? What do you current UF students do for food?

EDIT: I'm referring to the full year plan, not the meal plan during Preview.

Preview is a little crazy, when I went all the students got in a line, or maybe a few lines, and then keys were passed out in that order, so you’ll room with someone directly in front or behind you in line. Make sure you and your friend are in line together, and if you’re adamant about rooming together and you see you’ll be split up, see if some one behind you is going solo and ask them to jump in and fill the spot so they start a new room on the list and you guys will be together. Don’t worry if it doesn’t work out, I went to preview with 3 other friends and they got in a triple and I roomed with a random person but she turned out to be really nice and we’re still friends!
Also I don’t know what to say about the meal plan, I never had one, but freshman year I lived in Beaty so I had a kitchenette and a fridge and everything so did groceries, which I was convinced would be cheaper, but I never did any serious number crunching to figure it out, I spent about $75-125 on food a month (don’t go by that tho, I ate mostly pg&j and oatmeal, but there are even cheaper ways to eat). Also none of my friends continued with the meal plan our second year (or even semester for some of them), and we were all still in dorms, we just got mini fridges.

about the meal plan: 1) dont buy it before you get on campus and know that you want it. 2) if you find yourself eating at the dining hall less than twice a day during the first week or two, you probably don’t need the meal plan.

i get groceries every two weeks and eat out about twice every 3 days. and i don’t use the kitchen.
