How hard on a scale of 1 to 10 is the spanish placement exam if you haven't taken spanish in two years? I've been brushing up on spanish for the past few weeks (verb conjugations, tenses, etc) but how hard is it to answer the questions and whatnot on a timed test?

Just came back from Orientation today! Anyway, if you haven’t taken Spanish in 2 years, it may get a little rough. Towards the end of the multiple choice section, it takes into account subjunctive verb conjugations and advanced grammar, commonly taught in 4th year HS Spanish. The listening portion of the test is decent, as there is not too much grammar. That portion mostly tests vocabulary recognition, but, they do not repeat anything! So don’t get caught up in the previous question. Good luck!

Oh, and I forgot the rigor scale. lol. 2 years out of the game, I’d say an 8, with 10 being the most difficult.

i just got back from orientation today too, and I personally thought the Spanish placement test was a breeze. I have taken AP Spanish though, so your time with the test will be considerably harder because it has been awhile since u have taken it. I really don’t know how to rate the test based on that because it will be much different becuz of the different levels of spanish people are at, thus why it is a placement test and measures the proficiency of a student in order to place that student in a fitting class. Honestly, if you know spanish, it isn’t hard

Samuelson- did you take the AP test this past May? If so, how do you think you did?

Do you have to take a foreign lang placement exam? I took 3 years of Spanish in HS and it was horrible. My teacher was horrendous and I honestly did not learn a thing. It was a real struggle for me. I’d much rather start with a new language; either Italian or French. Is this possible?

^They’ll still want to you take the language placement test but yes.

yeah i took the ap test in may and I honestly think it was about a score of a 4. We took a practice test as our exam and that is what I scored and I felt as if I did just as well on the actual AP Test. I would say with a 3,4, or 5 on the AP test, the placement test is a not a challenge at all.

oh, and at orientation, one of my friends said he didn’t take spanish senior year and decided to take the placement exam. I don’t know what he thought about it, but he got 8 credits from it, the maximum an engineer can place out of for a foreign language.

If you’re an engineer, definitely take the placement exam. I had three years of Spanish and was far from the greatest Spanish student, and I got eight credits out of it.

Do you actually get credits, or just placement? 8 credits seems like too much, especially since the website says that you only get 3 for AP.

Only engineers can get credit I think, others just placement, but it’s really 8 credits.

yeah i’m doing engineering, so that’ll be a pleasant surprise for the parents.
