Is there absolutely no private time during the whole 3 days?

I mean when you get there you have to go to programming until the curfew time (11) and you get kicked out and off of campus. Then the next day from 8am to 9pm we have more programming and then some entertainment crap from 9 to 11 and another 11pm curfew..

Basically, I'm wondering if everything is already set out so we don't get to eat where we want (off campus) or hang out for a few minutes at other buildings (dorms?) at all during the whole time.

Also, how is the whole showering thing done? Are you just supposed to arrive showered and ready for bed..?

Thank you for your absolutely pointless post, “satscholar” (surprising since your SAT score was pretty subpar and you didn’t even get into UF…). I’ve read a few of your posts here and you seem to be this internet jerk with probably no friends irl.

All I wanted to know was what free time would be allotted since it pretty much seems like “Do this, do this, do this, stay in your room as soon as we release you there or you get kicked off campus and suffer punishment from the student judicial blah blah blah.” Your horrible attitude really serves no purpose here and you rarely make a useful post (just random Smith Hall lies).

You can respond if you’d like, but I’m adding you to my ignore list. Thanks for being the first jerk/meanie-head to make it there.

The curfew is in place due to an incident last year where people attending orientation got drunk and drove to Georgia. I’m not making this up; it happened the orientation just before mine, and my orientation was the first to have the curfew.

All meals are included in your orientation fees. It’s a great chance to get to experience FSU mealplan, and I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to try it before you buy it. (Unless you’re in one of the renovated east dorms. Then you have no choice.)

You won’t hang out in any other dorms other than Wildwood. Likely, none of the others will be open besides Ragans (depending on when your orientation is). With orientation, you do spend pretty much the whole day doing their programming, it’s repetitive, and boring. It’s also very informative, and you will leave feeling feeling like you’re an FSU student and ready for school to begin.

As for your shower question, do you think the dorms don’t have showers? Bring a towel, soap, shampoo. They’re not included.

I don’t know why you’d say that sunnyflorida, unless that’s your son or something. I haven’t seen any posts like what he does from you, so… no.

Oh and I already visited so I know what the food is like, but I love Wendy’s and McDonalds’ food way more than the FSU alternatives (not that it’s bad) so I’ll probably want to leave campus at least for lunch… Oh and I know Landis will be open since my friend in the care program will be there and I wanted to see her sometime (that was my main reason for asking about that) before I left campus.

Yes I know the dorms have showers, but I didn’t know if by curfew they meant we were supposed to just stay in our dorm rooms or not. The term “curfew” over here means you’re ready for bed and in your room until you fall asleep. I guess the curfew makes sense because of that (I really hate it when one group of ■■■■■■■ ruins things for other people though). Thanks Matt!

The curfew means you need to be inside Wildwood hall (just the building). You don’t necessarily need to be in your room. This isn’t 6 yr old over night camp.

Just a heads up, you might consider loosening up. Your tense crap won’t fly amongst many in college. Reporting people who offer you weed will likely not end will for you, nor will your negative attitude towards seemingly everything. SATScholar’s posts are informative as are most of the students/alum that post here. Plus, everything he has said about Smith Hall is true. It’s not the nicest, but it is social, and most that live there love it.

Well this thread was both informative and entertaining…

I don’t have a problem with satscholar, but I don’t think calling someone a failure on the Internet really serves a purpose other than to **** someone off. That said, you’re going to run into a lot of problems on the Internet if you let comments like that get to you so easily.

Honestly, you won’t get as many replies as earlier orientations, like previously mentioned, had more freedom. Are they walking you to the entertainment activities from 9pm-11pm? During my orientation we got to choose from all sorts of activities they had on campus. My roommate/suitemate went back to get ready for bed while I explored the ghost tour/bowling/ and such. If you want some extra personal time I bet you could always get up a half hour early before you are required to be at the first event of the day.

Maybe Jake could sneek out after curfew at orientation and go stake out Smith Hall to check if satscholar is the Cheetos orange puking, explosive diarrhea all over the bathroom walls, hair ball drain globbing guy at Smith Hall?

You’ve already had a couple of answers (some bad, some good) but I want to give you one more vantage point with some FACTS about Orientation. I am a Senior this year, so some of the things that happen during the program have changed since I went through as a student, but I did work as an Orientation Leader for two years and have a little brother that went through last year, so I’ve seen the progression and what not.

First, as far as Private Time… the program is very rigorous. As someone above stated, the program is long, can seem repetitive, but everything you do is important in some form or fashion. You learn about EVERYTHING you need to know about attending FSU (which is funny because people sometimes learn something on campus and say they wish they had learned it sooner…but they did learn it, they just weren’t engaged in orientation haha). At some points during orientation you get an opportunity to make some choices as far as what sessions you want to go to (are you interested in Pre-Law? Pre-Med? Need to change your major? Interested in Greek Life? etc) but for the most part it is very structured. You’re only there for a day and a half really, so you have to get a lot of information, get advised, and get registered in a short amount of time. As far as the night time entertainment goes, it really isn’t “crap.” Odds are, your whole senior class isn’t coming here so this is a fun way to get to know some of your future classmates since during the day you are busy learning stuff. There are movies in the movie theater, a text message scavenger hunt thing, and ghost tours (and probably other stuff). The ghost tours are my personal favorite choice. It’s the only opportunity for the students to tour the campus a little with fun facts and stories about the buildings and past of FSU. My friends and I STILL talk about the ghost stories we heard during orientation.

About visiting other residence halls and going off campus… Regans, as well as the graduate student halls will be the only ones open during orientation. Your friend in the CARE program will not move in until after all of the orientations are over (its planned that way so that the campus is clear for the massive wave of incoming students) so you will not be able to visit your friend. Also, going off campus for lunch will not be a possibility either. Aside from letting you try the dining halls, the main purpose of eating on campus during orientation is because its such a packed timeline that you don’t have time to leave campus and make it back by your next session (which if you miss, you will have a registration block and you’ll have to get the information while everyone else registers…EEK!). There are tons of options at the dining hall, so try to make the best of it (besides, its only three meals).

Phwew…that was a lot of typing. I hope it helped! As far as the curfew goes, the answer above is probably accurate. Making poor choices can result in being dismissed before you even start classes, and that would suck. Also, I can’t emphasize enough how intense and exciting orientation is, and going out after the long day is a dumb idea. You’re going to want to sleep. I’m going to look up your postings about Smith hall as well… I’m an ex-Kellum resident and LOVED it. I’ll hit that post up. GO NOLES!

During orientation you will have a roommate. If you have a friend that you want to roommate, you can check in for orientation at the same time and room together, otherwise, pick out someone who looks nice and room with them (one new friend, Check!).

There is a section of orientation where you get to pick which sessions to attend and there are two time slots for it. There will be a ton of things to choose from and you can pick which two are most important to you. I gave some examples but some other examples include learning about the FSU Card, Libraries, The computer store, Greek Life, Pre Med or Law, Changing your major, financial aid, FSU Bookstore, Study Abroad Programs, Seminole Student Boosters, and so much more. So you get to pick some fun stuff :)

Woah that’s a lot of information, Jinx. One question though… Are you sure Landis won’t be open? My girlfriend’s paper says she moves in on the 18th

so how does scheduling work? Do they set you up with someone at the end of the orientation? Also, do they assign a roommate to you during orientation?
