Orientation Week?

What's the social aspect of orientation week like?

Are there parties for freshmen and stuff?

Yes, there are. Just do not overdo it. You do not want to be that freshman taken to the hospital for alcohol poisoning or the one passed out in front of the Pit.

^^^ is that from personal experience, willmingtonwave??? :)

Yes, there are tons of parties orientation week. To echo willmingtonwave’s point: Do be careful and not just so you don’t embarrass yourself, but also because the local police are out in full force the first couple weeks of school. You don’t want to have to deal with an underage drinking citation.

Do the local police patrol campus?

No, campus police patrols campus. Parties are usually off campus in fraternity houses and the local police patrol all the surrounding neighborhoods.

My friends and I joke that we wish we had orientation week at the END of the school year, instead of the beginning- obviously, that defies the point, but the truth is, it’s a nice opportunity to spend a week doing nothing but fun things. It’s too bad that you more than likely won’t have met your best friends yet.

The bad part is that you have a million (sometimes tedious) seminars to attend as freshman. Most involve things like alcohol abuse, campus safety, the honor pledge, etc.
There most certainly are parties the first week, but as others have mentioned, don’t go overboard too early. Campus police will be extra watchful during the first week, trying to catch the dumbest of the dumb (even if that’s only for one night).
