Orientation Week - Parties?

Okay, so I have not heard too much about orientation week at Cornell, but I have heard that there are a lot of parties. Now, I also heard that OLs are largely responsible for helping us find parties and such. Mine, however, doesn't actually send the "I party" vibe, so I am kind of worried of how I will go about finding parties and other activiities.

So, anyone have any advice/tips/summaries of orientation week and my situation? Hopefully this should help a bunch of people. Thanks.

If your OL doesn’t tell you anything (which OLs aren’t even suppose to anyways) … I’d recommend just speaking with your dormmates who might have found information from other people (just simple great way of meeting people anyways). If anything, just go to Collegetown … thats where everything is happening. Hopefully the popos won’t be too much of hassle.

I’m no partygoer =P, I’ll have to find some other way to have fun. Video games? Checking out the jazz ensemble? Idk. Partying seems so cliche to me, but then again, I’ve never been.

You should at least try it before you knock it.

The frat parties in the annexes during O Week are probably some of the friendliest times from the frat brothers.

@mingusamongus try to be more open minded. college is a time to try new things and broaden your horizons. but dont go to parties with a negative attitude, besides being unproductive its frankly disrespectful to the people opening their houses to you and being vocally negative just spoils the fun for everyone else.

during oweek freshmen go out in collegetown in herds. try to find a group going (from your dorm or whatever), and among them someone will have an older sibling or friend or a cool OL or random contact to tell you places.

yeah, technically, as an OL, it’s “against the rules” for us to tell kids about parties so many won’t freely volunteer the information. i’d think you’d be “courageous” enough to ask your OL regardless of the rules if you’re really DYING to find a party. if, however, you really feel like your OL would not know about said parties… just go to collegetown with a group of friends and you will definitely find enough places to get free keystone/jungle juice/boxed wine.

hey, MingusAmongus, same here! but there will be other ways to have fun, i’m sure. if anything, we can check out the events that cornell has planned in the evenings.

well i for one, am looking forward to the parties.

Yeah Feral! Let’s like have a CC party meeting during orientation week (half joking)! So, I basically just mooch off of other people? I wouldn’t mind missing some of the parties if not too many freshman went, but it seems like a lot of fun and a lot of people go. I’m used to partying with some people I know, so I would love to meet new people. Also, are the parties mostly made up of the new freshmen?

Primary concern for the first week of college–where I can get me some free booze!!!
Weak.

I’ll probably split some time between the Cornell events and the parties. I’m one of those people that have to do everything to satisfy my need for the full experience.

Not really, my impression of O Week is just that everyone regardless of grade congregates around the annexes and random house parties

Well what do you expect? People aren’t going to randomly initiate intellectually stimulating discussions with people whom they’ve never met. That’s awkward as hell. Enjoy the one week of the academic year that has no responsibilities.

i agree with caillebotte -
seriously, guys, enjoy the first week; it’s the only week you’re at cornell with no responsibility…

Well, I just didn’t think that non-freshmen would be coming down for the orientation week. Do they come down the same time or when classes start?

Depends. I think most people arrive with a couple days to spare.

I hope I didn’t come off as rude as you’ve portrayed me. I have nothing against partygoers etc, I just said that it’s not for me.
@countryangel
who knows, we might cross paths or something.

Most people (freshman through seniors) will be in Collegetown. My advice would be to check out whatever OSC sponsored event is going on for a little while, at least until 11PM. I know the OSC puts a lot of work into setting up those events and I feel bad when no one goes. Anyway, if you head to Collegetown around 11 or so you will definitely find a party. There are very very noticeable and you can literally walk into any open party and someone will hand you a beer. You will see HERDS of freshmen congregating together and walking in groups of 20 down College Ave. It’s kind of funny to watch as an upperclassman. Most OLs are pretty cool and if you text them they’ll let you know where the parties are. Just don’t get too drunk because you have a long way back to North Campus.

I’d expect the first two days to be the biggest party days of O week in Collegetown.

I absolutely agree with the guy you are mocking. where can I get free drinks?

everywhere.

also, TONS of upperclassmen are back. first of all there are 450 OLs who get thre the 18th, and then the majority of the rest of them come back the 21st, 22nd. then people keep trickling in and basically everyones back by the 24th.x

Yeah I’m a junior and I’m coming back the 22nd - a lot of upperclassmen do; it’s a free week for us, too!
