i heard you stay with whoever your standing around in line with during check in..

you'll stay at Rich Hall on West Campus.

BU will provide sheets, a pillow, a small towel, and a cup (and i think a bar of soap.. i don't remember). unless you're changing in the bathroom after your showers, bring a larger towel. also bring a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, a comb, an alarm clock (or a cell phone with an alarm clock), and if it's convenient for u, a fan (rooms are extremely hot over the summer).

what BU provides may change year to year.. so maybe later ask someone who went to orientation this year.

u will stay with whoever is next in line during check-in (same sex, of course). most the rooms are doubles, but there are also a few triples and i think a handful of quads too.

Though a good idea, how are we supposed to transport a fan??

that's why i said "if convenient".. if u live near boston and/or you're driving to orientation. or if you're a really good packer..

Honestly, if you do not bring a fan, or pick one up at CVS, you will wake up with feeling like you were boiled, and all sweaty. Not trying to gross you out but the humidity and heat in rich hall over the summer is ridiculous.

Feeling like I was just boiled?? Great...I guess since I live so close (in the suburbs outside Boston) I will just bring a fan.....

bost88-could you bring one for DD and I also?

I am going with my D to orientation and staying in the suites I guess it is... does anyone know if parents room with other parents too... maybe it would be a good idea to just call BU and get these answers??

"you'll stay at Rich Hall on West Campus."

Are you sure? I thought that they only threw the orientation kids in there last year since Warren was being renovated. I'm pretty sure that they are using Warren again this year.

No, I just got the official letter from BU and they said we would be in Rich Hall.

Rsky62, I stayed in the dorms last year at my S's orientation. It was great. Each suite has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. They are arranged so 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom are on each side. You have a key for the door of the suite and a key for your bedroom. There is a spacious living room and a kitchen. You can stash anything you want in the frig. The mom who stayed in the room next to me was from Texas and we had fun getting to know each other. That said, you don't have to socialize or hang out with your suitemates if you care not to.

The location was very convenient. Sometimes the weather changed and it was close enough to run upstairs and get a sweater. If you stayed in a hotel you might not have enough time to do that between afternoon and evening activities. Last year it was $55 a night. You can't beat the price.

Sounds like the suites include other parents but each has his/her own bedroom.

Exactly. I'm sure BU arranged each suite by gender! There were 4 moms in my suite. I don't know how it would work if two parents stayed.

the student village has 2 room suites too. my parents came with me and stayed there, and they get their OWN suite, with 2 bedrooms of course. 2 of the nights, the heat was so unbearable in rich hall, i felt i was melting, so i trecked over to stuV and stayed in the other luxuriously air-conditioned room with my my parents.

Thanks for all of the info, the mailer states that I will be staying at Student Residence at 10 Buick Street. I wish i could trasport a fan for my D (we will be flying) she'll be miserable with the heat! Oh well!

If the heat is unbearable it may be worth it to purchase a small fan in Boston. You can probably find one for under $25. You may get lucky and attend on a cool or a breezy week. The windows do open in the kid's dorms and at WEST they'lll have a great view of the city skyline and river.

Im from California, and thought I could handle the heat...I was wrong, but the CVS across the street has fans for 10 bucks, i got one, but then ended up staying in my parents room at buick street because it was so unbearable haha. oh well, thats new england for you.

seems like a bunch of us will be taking a class trip to CVS.. haha, bonding time

i'm a cheap person.. i didnt buy a fan when i was there. i dont think it wouldve been worth it. the heat was pretty uncomfortable, but i managed without a fan. two nights of hell in my life wasnt that bad.

i brought the fan issue up in this post just as a warning and especially for people driving to orientation, since its convenient for them. but if youre one of those BU kids who can afford to buy tropical islands, then by all means buy a fan at orientation. otherwise, dont freak out about it. have fun at orientation.. fans arent worth worrying about.

oh yeah.. and u should also bring shower shoes / flip-flops. ... unless youre one of those BU kids who can afford to treat warts.

sigh.. rich kids.
