I was wondering who else is taking Math 2200, and what teacher did you sign up. I am a good math student but I want to find out the best teacher ( not necassarly the easiest) because I know that if you have a bad teacher then math can become a little harder.

Here's my strategy for finding Profs until I get to UGA and can rely on word-of-mouth:

(1) Check out ratemyprofessor.com (ignore the rants, look at overall picture).

(2) Check out Prof's grade distribution: http://www.uga.edu/blacktie/thekey/g-2005-08/disc2.htm (avoid anyone who gives ALL A's or NO A's).

(3) Check out the department website to see if Prof I'm interested in is faculty or a TA (usually Prof is the better choice).

My uncle works at UGA and says the whole experience depends on getting good Profs. Some are lousy.

Thanks for that Grade Distribution info.

Question about registering...

Three of my classes have "Staff" in the instructor space, what does this mean? That there will be a new prof.?

^that a professor hasn't been assigned yet, I think.

I'm pretty sure that a "staff" designation means you're getting a TA (or adjunct instructor). If you're a prof, your name gets in print. If you're a lowly TA--they don't bother listing your name.

Occasionally "staff" will mean an unassigned prof--but that's more unusual.

Some classes (like Freshman English or Psych or Spanish) you almost can't avoid a TA. But in the Math department, you can shop around for a Professor.

Heres my predicament, Im already goin to have two "staffs" for engl and speech communication so I really dont want another one, but considering all my options (time of class, location from class to class, professors, etc.) I have to either choose Ainsworth for political science 1101 or have a "staff" Ainsworth seems to be a hard prof. from testimonials from ratemyprofessor and black tie distri. (above).

It's unlikely (although not impossible) that the unknown "staff" will be a tougher grader than this Ainsworth guy. Chances are, though, that the Prof would give you a better education, So the question is--what are your reasons for taking the class? Are you just fulfilling a course requirement or is Political Science your major? If the class is important to you, I'd take the Prof (and a better education), but if you're just jumping through a required hoop--I'd take my chances on "staff" (and a better grade).

Until we all get to UGA and can get word of mouth on these profs--it's all a bit of a crap-shoot anyway. So I wouldn't stress too much.

Thx, I think I will choose the staff because pols is just a req'd.
