what is the link to the cadet wikipedia site?

I read on cadet wiki about "5th degrees" and how cadets will entice appointees to train 4 degrees so they have a grudge when the person enters Beast. Is that something to worry about, or do they just do things like that to people who deserve it?

Just as a heads up, all the stories on the wiki come from grads and current cadets. Some of them have fallen out of use over time. About half of the things in the wiki still happen, and the other half I've never seen or heard of at all here.

Anyway, my suspicion is that it was a tactic from the "old days." I've never come across any stories like the one here. I can't say that it definitely doesn't happen, but it doesn't seem like a common practice. No worries though, you'd have to do something really dumb for people to remember you when BCT rolls around.

orientation overview: what're we gonna sit in briefings about? just the AFA in general, or what specifically? and we can buy boots.. and tuesday is spent shadowing a cadet. i'm just wondering what the briefings will be about..
They'll brief you about every topic imaginable, but the one that stands out most in my mind is the one about BCT. You'll be introduced to your future Group Commander (the highest ranking cadet during BCT), and they'll tell you all about what you can expect from your first summer here. That and the other briefings are very valuable, as is the opportunity to purchase and break in your boots. Shadowing your cadet is cool too, but because it's after Recognition, it's not exactly a realistic look at what life will be like for the next ~261 days.

hahaha, all of 2011 knows the future BCT Group Commander...Cadet Curry. Man, I sure have a lot of memories come to mind when I hear his name!

ABOVE ALL, don't wear your hat indoors around him..."HEY BASIC!!!!"

Sorry for the inside joke... ;)

Also, Cadet Curry is in my squad, so if you make such a great impression on me like redhead did last year, I'll be sure to mention your name to him. ;) mwahaha!

uh oh! =)
what exactly did she do???

being herself. lol

Apparently I was sassy at orientation... it's just my personality to joke around alot because laughing is basically my favorite sport. And I made.. um... friends :) with someone on basic group staff, compliments of hornet. Let's just say inprocessing day was loads of fun! I would recommend being a stealth basic and a stealth 4 degree, but if that doesn't work out for you, you'll definitely have some fun stories to look back on!

And I really don't remember anything about the CC dinner except for getting royally picked on. And taking lots of pictures! That's another favorite sport of mine. :)

I can't wait for 2012 to get here. Any girls on here, I'd be happy to host for orientation!

Is the CC dinner already planned? Is there a date? It's a long way to go for a soup and salad but I'm game.

Redhead, I'll PM you, but I'd love to stay with you! Although it sounds like you may foil my plans of being a stealth basic!

That's awesome! I think the hardest thing for me during basic is going to be not smiling...I love to laugh!

what is the cc dinner?

Last year a few cadets (G4C, eagle, and hornetguy) and then the 2011 appointees who posted here on CC got together Sunday evening before each orientation for dinner... just so you can kind of put some faces with the names, get to know some cadets/future classmates, ask questions... that kind of thing. It's a lot of fun. I vote we do it again this year. :)

missmuff, if you're anything like me, it WILL be hard not to smile in basic. I was told that all of the smiles were going to be beat out of me and I still can't go 5 minutes without laughing. I think the only time I had decent bearing in basic was when we had bearing competitions and the winner was the only one who got to check their mail for the day!

And buckaroo... I got ya girl! :)

CC dinners are fun! A hint to the current 4 digs, send up SSS's to make sure you can attend on Sundays. I'm glad I did because they got me out of 3 post-recognition k-tests (and let me go!)!

PS now that I know a bit more about the area, here are my restaurant suggestions that will be posted again later.
Famous Dave's
Biaggi's
Red Robin
Olive Garden
Salt Grass (kind of expensive though)
California pizza kitchen
PF Changs
On the Border
Applebee's
Panera Bread
Qdoba
Champps
Ted's Montana Grill
Old Chicago
Outback
TGIF

So many places to eat that are close to the south gate!

I'll be there...count on it. CC dinners = fun times! :P

Yea the CC dinner's are the way to go, alot of fun, and gives you someone your familar with, whom you can talk to during orientation and the school year. Who knows they might end up being in a class with you during the school year... or even in your same Basic Squad/flight...oh the memories..haha ;) .

I know some of the parents like it as well, because now they have a familar face for all their soon to be parents.net emails..haha

The SSS sounds good Hornetguy, I'll have to remember that one :)

I need advice from current cadets....

My D was not planning on attending the April Orientation since she has been there twice already. We did the family tour two summers ago. We were lucky to have a friend of a friend show us the areas not normally accessible on tours, also. Then, D went again last year to do the Shadowing the Cadet day....So, my question-- should we send her out again for this Orientation? We really were not planning on it but from what I'm reading here, she might miss out on important info. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Oh, forgot!--she also did Summer Seminar last summer.

Orientation is a good opportunity to get some of the last minute info you will find helpfull. Banking, Boots, Meet the Academy Staff, and Cadets in charge of BCT. It isn't necessary, but very helpfull for both Cadet, and Parents. If she wants a Cadet to stay with I am sure Potterfan or Redhead would love to host.
