Orientation

So what's orientation like?
How many roommates will we have, and are they chosen randomly, or can we make requests?

Unless it has changed from my orientation two years ago, you will be sentenced to Hereford and spend a night in solitary there.

You're only there for one-night, so they randomly assign you a room. Most people don't get roommates if it's still held in Herford. Look at it as a way to meet new people, not just your high school buds.

Last summer we still stayed in Hereford, and I was assigned a roommate. We became such good friends and have remained so, that we'll be sharing an apt. with 2 other girls in the fall.

My orientation will be on July 21 & 22. Are we going to meet with the counselor? Is there any disadvantage of having the orientation so late regarding courses registration?

course registration is staggered (they open xx spots in each class per registration session) so no one has any advantage over anyone else, minus those echols kids.

Cherry,

No disadvantage in registering later. The number of open class slots are the same for each session. You will meet with an advisor.

If you are interested in med/vet/dent/pharm school, subscribe to University Career Service's prehealth listserv at UVa-Prehealth Info Page and be sure to visit the UCS booth at orientation.

will E-School people be able to get the classes they need 1st semester???

Yes. They give you a packet of schedules to chose from, you chose, and you're in. The only exception is I know some years STS101 fills up, but that can easily be taken second semester, and they make you take an elective instead. No worries for e-school people, you pretty much always get the classes you need.

they open up a certain number of slots for the large intro sections every session so what you really want is to have an earlier meeting time with your advisor on the 2nd day. Engineers that meet with their advisor in the afternoon will find certain scheduling options already full.
