For those who havent attended Marist's Orientation yet, you are in for a treat!
What a wonderful day- for student and parent! If I thought the welcome mat was out before I -was wrong- its out now! Marist knows how to treat its newly-admitted class!

Petcat - thanks for the info. My S and I are going on Friday, really looking forward to the day.

petcat–You’re in for a fabulous surprise for freshman move-in day. They do an amazing job of welcoming the new freshmen.

Older students volunteer to carry everything up to the freshman dorm rooms. In the past, all you had to do was label everything with the student’s name, dorm and room number and then leave it in a pile in the designated parking lot. The volunteers do the rest of the work—carry it up and bring it directly to the noted dorm and room number.

My suggestion for you is to carry the bedding and electronics (ipod, cables, printer, laptop) to the room yourself. Leave the rest of the labeled stuff for the volunteers to carry up. This way, you can make the bed and get the laptop set up without having to wait for the other stuff to make its way up to the room.

Somehow, what appears to be a chaotic system is actually very orderly. You’ll probably get direct info regarding move-in day from the school. Hopefully, they still use the same system.

Hi MaryAnn C- sorry i “fell off the grid” before, and never got to congratulate you & your son on Marist! Congrats! Let me tell you, I know when schools are wooing you you expect nice treatment, but this Orientation Day was wonderful! I feel the administrators, and staff at Marist certainly went all out, but what really made the day were the Students, they were so enthusiastic, and energetic, and just so “loving Marist” that you couldnt help but be glad you are a part. My S wanted to stay and start classes this week. lol. For parents, we are basically in the Administration Bldg/Student Center all day, we move from room to room within that bldg, lunch & breakfast are in there too, so you dont have to don your walking shoes (as I did) except for the tour of the residences we really didnt walk around or go outside at all. They day flew by however, and I learned alot, and they give you a great “parent book” that in case you missed or forgot something its all there! Hope you & S enjoy as we did, and Well, welcome to class of '14!

Just a warning for the students if you haven’t attended yet – be prepared to take your photo ID picture right after signing in! I unfortunately wasn’t aware of this; after getting up at 4 and then sleeping half the ride to Marist I wasn’t too happy about this… after all that picture will stay with you for all four years not fair

but yes, otherwise the day was great for students & parents alike!

Hi again newrose72 I LOL’d about that comment- actually good point though- my son was complaining about his pic too- he was still asleep. Yah, well I guess you will all be sleepy in your IDs. Im sure for a cost you can re-take if they are that bad…:)

Exactly - and most of the ID pictures will probably be fairly small as well.

Petcat - you were correct. My S and I had a fabulous day last Friday at orientation.
