The 8/27~8/31 orientation is mandatory for international students...however, it says on the music school's website that every music student has to attend an orientation (none of the dates coincide with that of the int'l orientation). Does that mean I have to attend two orientations (the one that starts from 8/27 and the one that starts from 9/1? (that would be crazy busy...) Does anyone know how many days the music orientation is going to last?
Can anyone tell me the schedule/general activities you do at orientation?

Is AEE required for all the international students? How difficult is it?

Do you register for your classes during orientation? I don't even know what classes I need to take until I meet my advisor...so basically you have only one day to decide all this with your assigned advisor...?

call that lovely office of “New Student Programs” at 734-764-6413

i have had to call them a couple of times to deal with orientation.

they are involved in all the orientation scheduling information/questions and should be able to deal with your questions.

Hi there. Listen, I think you’d also feel a lot better if you contact Dee Dee Unlintz (spelling?) at the school of music. She is the registrar and will help you if you tell her you’re worried about having to make your selections in such a short time. Eg. she will likely tell you that most of your courses are already outlined and there may only be room for 1 or 2 electives. So look her up on the school of music website and check the time zone and see if you can set a phone appointment.

Ask her how to “backpack” your courses as well (in wolverine, where you go look at the courses and build a pretend schedule until you’re actually ready to register.)
Good luck!

Deedee Ulintz is fantastic, definitely contact her for School of Music. She’ll have all the information you need.

on a different orientation themed note:

do you think i need to bring a backpack to orientation around with me all day, or will a larger purse work?

i know this is a very stupid question. but i wasn’t about to get housing for orientation so i am staying at a hotel and don’t want to go back and forth…

thanks!

a large purse is fine
a backpack is unnecessary
