Originality of college essay on Kpop?

I thought I'd write my Common App essay about how I started out loving kpop, and I've become fascinated how the Kpop industry revolving around girl/boybands has garnered followers to the point to which there is extreme support or condemnation of the groups along with fan wars and such. I also find it fascinating how it is such a cash cow and its a rising industry which is becoming more and more prosperous. not only that but i foresee and look forward to a merge in kpop and american music (talk about 2NE1, etc).

After I thought of this, I noticed that some people have asked about kpop-related essays. Is this a very unoriginal essay? Would it be a bad idea then? If not, could it even be considered an original essay?

Also what else could I add to this concept?

It’s not exactly an unoriginal essay (though I’m sure quite a few people write about it, but don’t let that deter you), but your seems to be less about you and more about K-pop. The only thing I learned about you from your description is that you’re fascinated with k-pop, and that’s very one-dimensional.

Perhaps you could make the rise of K-pop synonymous with your rise as a person, or you could talk about certain attributes of yours that it appeals to, or how it meshes with your personality. I personally wouldn’t be able to write a good essay on any genre of music (for the common app essay at least) but I’m sure it’s possible, yet difficult.

At first glance at your name…I already knew what was coming xD. Its definitely a unique topic and has its distinction…but be careful to concentrate the purpose of the essay and how it reflects who you are as an applicant. K-Pop in general…from my experiences…has become an delirium about idols, appearance, and materialism…which I don’t approve of. But I still listen to the music…because its so dam catchy xP.

Topic seems really interesting…
But as everyone else said, the essay needs to be centered on YOU not Girls Generation.
