OSU In-State Decisions

@Texas2Ohio Sure!

I am an African american( as you may already know from my profile picturel)
First Generation
Income about 20,000 with 6 in the house hold(me included)
I go to what would be considered a “bad” school.
School’s average ACT is a 15( I know…)
I am taking dual-enrollment and PSEO classes at the local university
My GPA uw is a 3.7( I am ranked 1 in my class of 114)
ACT:27(E:30, R:27, M:25, S:24)

I am involved in a few extracurricular activities that I have been involved in for most of high school which are:

Founder of the Math and Science Peer to Peer tutoring clubs(9-12)
Teen speaker at the local Runaway center(9-12)
Baseball(10-12)
Over 1000+ hours of volunteering at the hospital(9-12)
I work over the summer to support my mother(9-12)
And there is always family responsibilities( forever lol)

In my essay for the Morrill Scholarship I wrote about how all my life I have been attending schools that were 95+% African American, and I never really gave thought to diversity until I went to an African American history class at a local community college and saw almost every race besides African American in there trying to gain a better understanding of diversity themselves. I eventually got students from that college to come speak to my school about the importance of diversity and how it plays a role in everyone’s life. Then I reflected upon how I have grown and learned about the importance of diversity in my on way.

That pretty much sums up my stats lol. There is a more personal aspect that I’m sure may have played a role, but I rather not post it on this thread. Go to my previous thread and read it if you want to know what I mean.

Anymore questions? Just ask! I am glad to help out.

@Jalaquan‌ - I haven’t heard anyone from my school receive the morrill. However, someone from a neighboring school (in the same school district) said they received the Excellence yesterday. I’m sort of confused because don’t they usually release scholarships in January? It just seems like I’m totally out of the running, since I’m not even admitted yet :/

Do y’all think it would be beneficial to call the ODI office and ask about the timing of scholarship notifications?

@Sugoi15‌ This is interesting. I also thought decisions would come out in January. I looked on a previous thread and this seemed to be the case, but they seem to be taking a different approach this year for some reason. Have you been checking you online status or are you waiting for the letter itself from OSU? It appears online before the acceptance letter comes for a fact. When did you apply? And you applied EA, right?

@Jalaquan‌ I have been checking my buckeye link account. It has been “Evaluating” for maybe 3 weeks now? I submitted my application very late (10:00 pm on Nov. 1) so this may be the reason why. I put Early action down, and have assumed I was an Early applicant. I submitted supplementary materials a week before Nov 1, but on my buckeyelink it says the materials got there on Nov 2-4.

Sorry for the tmi. I have hope b/c I know some people who applied EA at my school who are still under evaluation as well. I have sent an email and will call OSU on monday to see what’s up.

I have been checking social media, CC, but the only possible trend I see is people who have submitted earlier get decisions earlier.

@Sugoi15‌ Well you did submit everything on time, so you are in the EA pool. I still remember checking my account only to see “Evaluating.” Good new is that the next time it changes, it will have your decision in place of that. If you don’t mind me asking, what are your stats?

@Jalaquan‌
Weighted GPA: 4.41
Rank: 4/450 or top 1%
Unweighted: 3.96
SAT: 2200
ACT: 33
Scored a 5 on 6 APs, and a 4 on 1.

I tried to check buckeyelink today but it says the system is currently unavailable :/

@Sugoi15‌ You are by all means more than qualified to get accepted. I can’t think of a reason why you wouldn’t have been accepted already.

I think you won’t hear about the Morrill scholarship until they accept you. I really don’t know what to say. We will just have to wait and see.

My daughter was accepted and submitted right before the deadline, but her friend did not hear yet and she submitted back in Sept and her stats were better than my daughters. I think you’ll be ok with your stats. Have you checked your online account? She saw it there first before she got her letter.

@Jalaquan- thanks for the reassurance. I will call them to double check that I’m a early applicant. I’m not too worried since December is not over yet, but just surprised to see Morrills awarded so early.

@Quinn1- I thought that decisions were handed out based on app submit date, but I guess not. Hopefully we will all here back soon! :)
