osu vs. ou

My daughter is deciding between osu and ou. She was accepted into the honors tutorial college at ou and really likes the program. She received a full tuition scholarship. At osu she was accepted into the honors program and received a full tuition scholarship + 2400/year towards room and board. Please comment. Thanks

Lucky you…and congrats to D.

Any hints on majors or areas of interest? There may be some majors for which it would make sense to go to OSU–I don’t know, like big animal husbandry or something?

I agree that information on major would be helpful.

Athens is quite different from Columbus.

Are we talking about Oregon or Ohio…because I was talking about Oregon! (hmmm…just asked H and he said that University of Oregon is UO, so I am off base) And I just noticed that you are cincymom…

As Roseann Roseannadanna would say, “Never mind.”

[although advice could work in this case also]

This sounds like Ohio…screen name has Cincy in it. Major would indeed make a difference. OU in Athens has outstanding allied health professions and an osteopathy program too. OU is much smaller and doesn’t have all the professional schools that OSU has.

I’m a graduate of OU (speech pathology) and I loved it there. I personally thought OSU was WAYYYYY too big.

Congrats to your student! I agree that you need to look closer at what major your child is looking at. Our neighbor looked at both schools and was impressed with the newer facilities at OSU.

I hope that you don’t mind me asking, but what stats did your child have to receive such awesome scholarships at both schools?

IIRC, OU also has a great journalism program.

Probably “O” means Ohio given the screen name, but “OU” and “OSU” could also refer to the ones in Oklahoma.

The schools are very different. OU is a bit rural and pretty. OSU is more urban and busy. Overall, OSU has the better academic reputation and more programs. However, OU is strong in certain programs like journalism. My husband went to OU and loved it. He has always enjoyed the charm of a small town. Our son is at OSU and he loves his school as well. He loves being a Buckeye and the opportunities that a large research university offers. I don’t think he feels the school is too big because his classes and housing have always been close by.

I’m an OU grad, and love my time there. I don’t if it is still this way, but OU was on weird quarter system, that had us all home for 6 weeks over winter break. I think OSU is academically more challenging and has a better academic rep.
