I am speechless!

BUCHAREST - A 66-year-old Romanian woman gave birth to a baby girl on Sunday after years of fertility treatment and was claimed by Romanian media to be the worlds oldest mother ever."

I have spent a lot of time in Romania (cave exploration). One day, we were on an expedition in the Bihor Mountains of Transylvania, camped near a river. A woman about 30 years old was driving her small group of cows through our camp and we started talking (with my friend interpreting). I pointed to my son (3 years old at the time) and told her that was my son - on his first real expedition. She got very mad at my friend, insisting that he was translating incorrectly. There were flurries of Romanian flying back and forth and I finally jumped in and asked what in the world was going on. My friend told me that she said it was impossible that I was the boy's father. I was too old, and that I must be his grandfather! I was in my very early 40's then.

So what makes us speechless must be absolutely inconceivable to this peasant woman in the remote mountains of Transylvania.

I am appalled. At first I thought this would be one of those "woman gives birth to own grandchild" stories, but noooooo...this is her kid. Maybe she's hoping to have someone to push her wheelchiar for her in her old age. No, wait! How can a newborn push a wheel chair?

This is just ethically wrong, I don't care how you look at it. That woman had to be way past menopause. There's a reason women go through menopause.

I thought the same as you did, Cruella. Why on earth does she want a baby now? Well, actually, I love babies. It's when they get older that they give me heartburn. She should have gotten a puppy. They stay babies.

so the mother will be in her 80s when her child graduates from high school. imagine that. shudders that's really cruel treatment to foist on a child. come on now. why would you even do that to your body when you're past ... 40ish. adopt or something.

thats setting a child up for trauma. The kid will be like 8 when the mother hits the average lifespan for a woman (is it like 75?). whats gonna happen? is a brother / sister going to take care of the kid?
