Other Degree Offers

I auditioned for OCU for BM MT and was offered BA music and BA theatre studies (as a double major if I choose). These are both performance programs as well, audition based and not open to everybody, but obviously they are not what I was initially looking for. I was wondering if this would be worth pursuing. If anyone who has experience with this or is knowledgable about the programs at OCU could give me some insight that would be great. I know somebody who entered under these majors as a freshman and reauditioned and was admitted to BM MT by the end of that year. From what I understand, it is very common and very possible to reaudition and eventually get in to the MT program, but it is also difficult for me to imagine going in to a college program because I hope I can get in eventually. I don’t know what the best decision would be in my particular situation. Any advice would be great!

I wish I had some help for you, but I can only say that our daughter was offered admission to OCU’s BFA Acting program after auditioning for BM MT…Almost the same boat as yours.

I think it depends on what you want. Look at the curriculum for the BA and see if you would be happy taking those classes. If so and you love the school then go for it! But if you will only be happy there if you get in the MT program at some later date, you may want to think some more before making your decision. It is certainly possible to re audition for MT but remember it will be the same odds as auditioning this year. It is not a sure thing. The question you may need to ask yourself is, if for some reason you were not admitted to MT after re-auditioning, will you be happy there? I think in making your decision you need to compare the schools and programs you have been accepted to now, not based on what you hope may happen if you re audition. OCU is a great school for lots of different reasons and there is lots there to be happy about as a atudent there in addition to your major. But do make sure you will be happy in your major for which you’ve been accepted. Best wishes as you make your college choice! Sounds like you have some good options!

Same boat here - DD auditioned for MT, got offered the BA in Acting. She is very pleased with that and wants to reaudition, but also will be fine if she follows that program of study for 4 years. That was the big question I asked her. The other great thing about the BA program, for her, is that she will be able to explore getting a minor in other areas that she is interested in. She loves the school and is happy to be in a BA there. But that may not be true for everyone.

Question: How many BA theater majors are there at OCU?

I e-mailed them and they said they don’t have a “cap”, but it will be around 40, with 16-20 in a class.

Whoops…the info I posted above applies to BFA Acting, not BA theater at OCU. Sorry.

Thanks - I will email them and ask. I am also curious as to whether BA in Theatre Majors are allowed to audition for productions, or if only the BFA’s are allowed.

@momto3g My D was just offered the same as you posted last year on this thread. did you go to OKCU?
