OU Best in College Sports

Though that is not necessarily why my DD is going to attend college at OU this Fall, it is worth noting that they have one of the best athletic programs in the country.

hmm, maybe this is why the coaches are getting raises while the professors are taking pay cuts?

Big athletic programs at schools like OU and UT actually bring money into the schools, even when the coaches get raises.

@MaineLonghorn is right. OU is one of the few programs that actually gives money back to the university. OU’s athletic department gives several million for academic scholarships. The AD is actually cutting back spending even more this year to give more money back to the school because of the budget cuts.

My dad is just stepping down as the chair of the Men’s Athletic Council at UT-Austin. It’s an excellent program. The players get every chance to succeed. Lots of tutoring, for example. And UT pays for anybody who goes pro to come back and finish their degree.

Unlike UT where there is no NMF scholarship, most academic scholarships at OU go to NMFs while the majority of OU students do not receive much of the scholarship money.

@sunnydayfun, I dot understand how your post relates to the original topic of this thread about OU being the Best College in sports for the 2015-2016 year?

^You are right. My post does not relate to your topic. I just commented since other posters have mentioned scholarships and UT.

My apology if my post offended you.

When my son was deciding where to go, he did not want to go to a ‘sports-centric’ school. The reason schools like Alabama, Oklahoma and Kentucky can offer big scholarships is that they make money on their sports programs. Not just the balance sheet profit, either. The reason many college donors and boosters give money for endowments and scholarships is that they like to be able to brag about the success of their school (most often the sports program) to their associates.

Now that Mr. anti-sports has been at OU for a couple of years, he is a fairly proud supporter of Boomer Sooner sports.
