I know both basically offer full rides, but are there stipends and other extra scholarships or money that separate them? And this is kind of off topic, but which would you consider to be the better school?

Funny you asked that. My son is looking at both of these schools. From our viewpoint Oklahoma offers the better scholarship simply because Baylor’s tuition is more. Also, Oklahoma has a terrific scholars office just for NMF. Have you visited both? Oklahoma’s scholarship is in chunks including tuition, a laptop allowance, and a study abroad allowance. We have visited both, and it seems like OU is probably the better choice for him. They are both great schools, though, and he has not completely decided.

I forgot, there is another chunk from OU that could be used towards books, some housing.

3kids…what will be your son’s major?

Electrical or computer engineering. His best SAT sitting is 1920, short the 40 points needed to make the cut.

I’ll send you a PM to talk to you about this SAT issue

Hi’
I see your other post of a score of 1920. UGH! So close! Do you know the exact calculations based on no essay score used, but only the Multiple choice? The proper calculations are posted somewhere.
Anyway, I saw that your son was looking at Baylor, & OU and hoping to study EE or CE. Just like my son! We visited both and I was 99% sure he would attend Baylor due to great EE & CE program and new Eng. housing that I loved. ( OU was just too huge) Then, he visited Tulsa. We met the Prof. in charge of the Cybercorps computer program and my son never looked back. If your son doesn’t get the NMF, & do hope he does, I do know that Tulsa give lots of great high dollar scholarships for good scores. If his ACT is in the top 1% or 5% he can qualify for LOTS of money
( nearly full tuition) and just have to pay R & B. Anyway, because the boys sounded so much alike, I thought I’d share this with you. Good luck.

I have to second the love for the U of Tulsa. We visited Tulsa and OU and found them both to be really terrific. But something about the size and campus feel at Tulsa really won over my son (and his parents)! He applied early action there but will still apply at OU and others before he totally makes up his mind.
The NMF scholarship at OU is good for 5 years which can’t be ignored, in my opinion. Also the Honors colleges at both places were great–at Tulsa you get a $1000 scholarship if you are admitted into it–great for covering books for a year.

OU has a very good engineering school. I don’t really know about Baylor.

You might look at Oklahoma State too.

The calculation is m + Cr +(W. mult choice only x 10)>1960. Does anyone know if Baylor gives anything besides tuition to NMF? Texas Tech gives five years all costs except books. What about Tulsa?
