OU Honors Program & Medical Humanities Program

My D has been accepted to OK (yeah!) and also applied to the Honors Program and Medical Humanities Program. Does anyone know the timeline for notification? Will it be in Sooner Connect or in their OK email or will it come snail mail?

My D got a letter in the mail today that she was accepted into the Honors Program at OK. So, the answer to my question is–by letter.

Is anyone else planning on attending the Scholars2Sooners (S2S) campus visit in mid-February?

@CoMoMom Yes we are planning to attend. Sent you a PM.

@STEMFamily I look forward to meeting you and your S.

I know of a couple other families also attending that event @CoMoMom and @STEMFamily‌.

It will be our first visit to OU with our D. My husband and I went to a road trip football game when we were in college–you know back before the wheel and fire were invented-- so I imagine it will have changed alot. Plus the eyes of a 50 something sees different things than the eyes of a college student…Anybody got suggestions for a good place for dinner that is a classic hangout for OU students?

Fuzzy’s on Campus Corner. Even better if it’s Th-Sun.

Fuzzy’s isn’t the best food but it’s probably the most popular off campus restaurant among OU students owing to its rather cheap prices and large alcoholic drinks. Honestly, just walk down Campus Corner and see which places appeal to you. There’s everything from Thai to sushi to hot dogs along just a few streets. When my friends and I go out for just food we typically go to either Pad Thai, I Sushi, Fuzzy’s, Greek Cafe, or NY Pizza.

We’ll be visiting OU over President’s Day weekend too. We were able to get a tour scheduled on Monday through the National Merit Office and will stay and tour the National Weather Center on Tuesday morning. We aren’t part of the Sooner2Scholar event because D is only a high school junior but this is the only weekend we can travel. I feel a bit like a party crasher coming this weekend but the women from the national merit office said she’d make it work.

Any one want to meet up if you have the time?

Hi @CoMoMom, my daughter has also applied to Medical Humanities Program. She hasn’t heard any news yet. Do you have any idea when they will make any rejections, or invitations to go interview? We have visited OU, last summer. My daughter really loved it. We also did as @whenhen suggests, we walked along Campus Corner and found a nice place to eat…very friendly people everywhere we went!

Hi @2kidsinky ! I don’t really know when to expect to hear anything re the Medical Humanities program. I can’t find any hints on the OU website. I assume we will hear sometime in February since required interview is in March if a finalist.

@3scoutsmom I would be interested but I just don’t know if it will be possible with the schedule. Haven’t seen an actual schedule yet for DS but two years ago they had my daughter booked solid (even took us in a golf cart to get from one appointment to another in time), including lunch with a couple students from the National Scholars office and a couple of the other visiting students.

Does anyone know how many OOS students (not including regional) are accepted every year? I have pretty decent stats including several research publications in good scientific journals and very high GPA/SAT, but I’m aware that these programs have a very strong instate or regional bias.

And if any of you are applying to other BSMD programs, we have an “official thread for 2015 BSMD applicants” up in the multiple degree programs part of CC.

@chasingmymd1 If you are specifically asking about the Medical Humanities program, I believe that they only accept 5 students per year into the program. I am not aware that there is an in-state over OOS bias, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t…

Does anyone hear anything about the interview? My S was accepted to the Honors program in the beginning of Jan, but never received anything (even the acknowledge) for Medical Humanities program. He submitted a little before deadline.
Thanks.

@Happy001 My DD was on campus last weekend for the Scholars2Sooners event. We were told that people would be notified if they were finalists by the end of February.

My DD just got an email today letting her know that she is a finalist for the Medical Humanities Scholars Program! She is so very excited. Does anyone know, are the interviews over the telephone or are they in person?

Hi @CoMoMom‌ , my daughter also got an email invitation for the Med Humanities as a Finalist, but she is not going to attend OU. She just notified them on the same day, and so it didn’t get processed yet. Anyway, my understanding was that the interview takes place on campus. Did they invite you to attend on a certain day? I think it was supposed to be in March.

@2kidsinky Where will your D be attending do you know yet?
My DD will have a f2f interview for Medical Humanities Scholars on March 23rd! Very excited!
