Our Fresh New Look Is Here

Good morning.

  1. I still see no communication from admin. Waiting for it. Unfair that you are encouraging feedback from us but you are not offering any info back. Don’t expect a reply to every post - just UPDATES.
  2. I feel strongly that this is not a "wait and you will get used to it situation. This was not just a change or two. This was putting the entire CC forum in a snow globe and shaking it up.

I spent a little time looking in the cafe. Little. Time. It is not inviting, it is not cohesive. It doesn’t flow. I find myself not absorbing the info I read well because of the font - it’s like everything is so stretched out in a short amount of space. THE SCROLLING. Whatever injury you can get from over scrolling, we will have it.

Again will say that many of us are on a network (work or otherwise) where we cannot choose to download ad ware. But the moving video ad is so, so distracting with no end.

I love this site but hate this update. I don’t remember all the threads I like to peruse and when they don’t show up in a manageable list I just give up. Also, not being able to easily see the available sub-forums means they won’t get used which I think is a shame given all the knowledgeable people willing to share experience and advice. Please, please, please offer the option to use the old format.

I think I’ll share all this to Facebook. Never liked that button.
There is no way any user testing was done for this update. Hope you saved the old version and get your money back

First Forum I went to, I had to scroll down 3 screens to get past the pinned threads. That was only 9 threads. To make this work, those will have to be dealt with differently.

My scroll wheel just exploded and I now have carpal tunnel after attempting to use the new format for less than two hours.

Mother. Of. God.

Not a fan. At all. For all the reasons listed above.

I work at an art school, and I get that this is artistic. I just don’t think it’s user friendly for a forum like this, where users want to zip through to find questions and answers.

By the way, the double-spacing is driving me crazy. I am hitting enter twice because I am worried that I won’t get the correct spacing between paragraphs if I don’t. Wonder if I will have way too much space between paragraphs once I post?! Turns out the answer is no. So if I didn’t hit twice, I would have all of my info in one long paragraph? That’s not cool.

I, too, hope you can revert to the old format while working through the changes. This has so many negatives, I hope you didn’t pay much for it. And, yes, the videos are incredibly annoying. It takes forever to load every page. When I go to the next page even in this thread, several times I’ve received an error message and the whole page disappears. Good grief.

I’m curious, what exactly is supposed to be better about this change? I can’t identify even one thing. Not even a quote feature added. Ugh.
Are we ever going to get any comment/response from the Admin?!

I really do not like this new format/setup. It’s actually terrible. If using on a handheld, the amount of scrolling you have to do to scan across forums has exploded about 10 fold. It is pretty miserable to to try to navigate this format. The amount of white space is ridiculous. While CC has been a useful resource for me, I don’t envision I’ll be returning much with this setup.

And the avatar needs to be square again. That’s the only way someone could post a picture

If you use the control key while pressing the minus key, you can reduce the font size significantly, eliminating a lot of the white space. You won’t have to do it each time you come here either. At least I haven’t had to.

@Nrdsb4 I tried that and found that while the font size was reduced, there was still a lot of white space. I could see only one more post or thread even when the font size was tiny. Not worth the eye strain.

I am only on page 8, so maybe this has already been addressed, but I see times posted right under the last sentence of each one.

TIme posted should be farther up the post - instead of the other malarkey like someone’s replies or discussions.

I agree with all of complaints. I am another one who probably won’t put the effort into making this work. Finding the forum you want to visit shouldn’t take so much effort. Someone new won’t even know that that forum exists when someone who knows about it can barely find it.

Having the time of the post at the bottom instead of the top means you have to go down and then back up to determine whether or not you want to read it.

Nothing is visually appealing or intuitive. Those are 2 big drawbacks that aren’t minor.

It’s harder now to jump to the latest response/comment on any post so that makes me less inclined to check up here as often as before.

I’m not sure how tiny “tiny” font is-it’s probably an individual thing. But now that I have reduced the font size significantly, I can now see several posts at a time, as well as the stuff on the right side of the screen (Activity, latest posts, bookmarks, etc.)

I still don’t like the new layout, but since I usually only visit Parent Cafe, Parents Forum, and an occasional other one, I can live with it. But I really don’t understand what precipitated this change. Were people complaining about the old layout? Why in the world did they do this???

At a minimum add the most popular forum links so you do not need to go back to forums or whatever to find the links. One should be able to go fast from forum to forum.
Also something needs to be done with the forums that have too many sticky posts on the top. You shouldn’t need to scroll so much to get to the new posts. At least make those smaller on the side or something.

The last update was bad because they went to different font, more space , more ads and less posts per page. They didn’t read the complaints then so just did the same thing again by factor of 100.
I shouldn’t have to scroll to read my 3 sentences here.
This has to be the result of an internship project by someone with no experience whatsoever.
I’m sure the only directive was “leave room for more ads”

@Hello44, when I clink on the thread title, it takes me to the last post that I read rather than the most recent post. Isn’t that what you would prefer-to take up where you left off? Maybe I misunderstood you.

It seems clear that all the white space around the content of College Confidential is advertising for those that have ads and video popping up. College Confidential was not making enough money so they added mostly ads, so now those with ad blockers are not getting much content on their screens unless they shrink the font size.
