Our Fresh New Look Is Here

Is it my imagination, or did the post text just change to black? A start! Or is it dark gray? Thank you, somebody(?) Now, dear designer, go to your font menu…

I have not logged on yet on my desktop.

On my iPhone, it used to be so easy to navigate zip zip zip to the threads I was following and quickly read new posts.

There is so much scrolling it makes me a little queasy. Day two and I can confirm the font plus white space is very hard on my eyes.

Sad face. As the kids say.

Is there a way to skip back to the beginning of a thread without going through all the pages?

^ hit page #1 at the top / bottom

^^ Thanks for trying to help, @EyeVeee !!!

No page 1 shows up. That’s my problem. Just the current page with arrows on each side. Android phone…

“I’m confused. I have a “latest posts” link on the right side of the screen at all times. I do NOT have to go to the home page. I see it right now, along with my posts, bookmarks, etc.
Is this a difference between laptop layout and mobile?”

"Yes, on most, but not all, pages, there is a link to “latest posts"on the right.”

Problem is that, at least on my laptop, yes the “latest posts” link is on the right hand side of the screen but once you stat scrolling down to read the posts on a thread, the right hand column moves and disappears behind the constant stupid video box. So, if you aren’t scrolled to the top of the page, you don’t see right hand column content at all. Definitely a design flaw, IMO.

“the future is mobile-first”
I’ve seen several comments here saying that this update seems to be focused on usage on mobile devices however the biggest complaints seem to be coming from smartphone users. I’m not loving the changes but they seem much more bearable than on a phone, likely because of a bigger screen making some of the problems (scrolling, white space, font size, etc.) less offensive.

Additional note of a design flaw: the autosave function is slow to update. If I write a comment and then try to move immediately to the next page of posts before posting, it doesn’t autosave. I have to wait awhile or lose it. Not good, not user friendly.

It’s obvious to me that posters are having different experiences depending on which device they use to access the site and their font size settings. Many of you are relaying different things than my own experience.

You should assume both that we mods are reading (since several of us have commented in the thread) and that we are “encouraging” TPTB to read as well.

And you, ML, and any other mods should know we still love you. And we know Sorin tries to manage being in the middle.

We know, and thank you.

Read all of the comments. Seem to be 100% against the changes. At best anything positive is around 0.2% or so of all written. I ditto any and all comments. Should not have to reduce font size or otherwise make adjustments for a website. btw- easily have learned to ignore the right third of the page (what ads?). Hard on the eyes- so much white and thin letters. Garbled presentation- hard to tell headers, main content and everything.

Back in first grade using that lined paper with the dashes for making sure my printing is legible feeling.

Should have a tutorial page on how to read the pages.

They must be trying to get rid of older, wiser posters.

Ugly sweatshirt offer- gray??? Said no to it.

@gardenstategal - that’s really interesting.

Right now…I have pages 1 … and 23 - 29 available directly. I’m on a Mac, and just to see if it was a browser thing, I tried it on Chrome, Firefox and Safari (I use Brave most of the time, and would advise anyone who hates ads to try it)…all have the same thing.

FWIW, I’m running Safari with kaboom and AdBlocker. Not an ad in sight.
The format itself makes everything but the actual post pop. Interesting to know several of my bookmarked threads were started by now ‘banned’ posters. That jumps out at ya. As for the font and double spacing - reminds me of an old UNIVAX word processor. Bringing back memories of having to add code so you could get an indent or a paragraph.

Maybe CC thinks retro is in.

The video is the worst. Would you please put a stop to it.

Regarding ads – I use AdBlock on Chrome and very very rarely get any ads. I don’t see the video many of you are referring to.

I reduced the font size using control and - as someone suggested and it helps a lot.

Still getting used to this so I’ll reserve judgment.

@lookingforward - if we make the font smaller maybe, just maybe, we can fit a bit more on the screen. The constant scrolling is not my idea f exercise!

If you turn your Android phone to landscape, then you will see the “1” at the bottom to get to page 1.

However, in portrait mode, there wasn’t enough room allocated on the page to fit the whole thing, so it gets clipped.

Looks like a big to me, there’s plenty of space to give it more room.

@skieurope I know some mods are reading and participating on this thread and I am very grateful of that and all the volunteer work you do. I am sure you are reporting back to administrators! I’m simply suggesting encouraging an administrator to post some sort of response HERE. After all, the mods had no hand in these changes, nor can do anything about it. I think it makes good business sense for an administrator to address the concerns of a core group of long term participants who have enhanced the site over the years, most of whom are displeased, and many of whom are thinking of leaving the site now…

Just got on and saw all this. First impression is agreement with others, not happy. I made it through your last global revamp a bunch of years ago, so perhaps I will this time too. We shall see–right now not feeling it. Meanwhile, that video was saw annoying that it pushed me to download an Adblock Extension. Now I don’t see your ads at all. I used to, when they weren’t so intrusive. So if advertising is the goal here, I think this may be a step back for CC. Just thought I’d mention that.

It is a lot easier to type emojis now ???
I use my iPhone for CC, after the initial shock, I “learned” how to navigate to my bookmarked threads, latest posts, and post replies with no issues. I don’t see videos on my phone.
However, when I read my notification list, it is often difficult to move around when I want to roll down the list, it often is so sensitive that instead of rolling down, it goes to that one notification thread my finger touched while rolling. Can be frustrating.
It is usable, but I have to say the old format is easier to use.

On my desktop, the forum posts are squished into the middle of the page. I have zoomed to 80% to reduce the font size. On my phone, the font is larger than it needs to be making it harder to read and requiring a lot of scrolling to read through. Font is much larger than other sites (google for example or newspapers).

On my PC the actual forum takes up about one quarter of the screen, with the video a small area to the top right and then lots of wasted space.

Yes, people tend to react negatively to change, and it won’t make me stop coming to the forums, but it does not make it easier to read on my phone or on my PC.
