@rjm2018 Click on your own username and a posts/replies/agrees, etc line will come up and you can find your own posts. Fair warning, the thread name you posted in use to be in black or navy, now it is in gray. Those are a couple of the biggest design contradictions they used - a giant font, followed by light gray text that is hard to read in a sea of white. Easier to read v. harder to read or pretty v. practical…I don’t think they had well defined objectives.
@soozievt I am using Ad Block Plus and the video does not show up. Maybe try that? I am one who never had an ad blocker before yesterday. I don’t mind a few stationary ads, but the video left no choice other than not ever visiting the site again. The downside is that the ad blocker uses quite a bit of power (not to mention seems to cause problems with some other sites).
I’ll reiterate my main thought for the designers, one word: proportion.
I hate a lot of things about the redesign but one thing that for some reason is making me nuts is the highlights (latest posts, bookmarked threads) being on the right instead of the left - argh!
There is nothing gained whatsoever from this new format. Why did you all think it needed to be changed? SO much harder to find ANYTHING
On iPad mini, my font is readable (not too small), but I’m signing off for awhile bc the light gray color of the font with so much white in the background is giving me eye fatigue and a headache.
Even though I don’t have that many posts, I’ve been a member since, I think, last year (I can’t tell you exactly bc I can’t figure out a way to get to my specific activity page, lol) and I never would’ve joined such a difficult-to-navigate forum in the first place.
As a parent of a D21, I’m saddened to read posts from so many senior members who are worried about how effectively they will be able to help students and parents with their questions after this reno. Your experience and knowledge is an invaluable asset to this site. I hope the functionality can be changed for everyone’s benefit.
Hat tip to @CADREAMIN. Thank you! ? I found my activity page and I joined last May.
If I got so many complaints on a new application my team has rolled out I would have BACKED OUT.
Seriously, who ever thought this was a good way to organize/display different forums was stupid. I can’t find anything. Do you think people feel this way when Apple rolls out a new version. They don’t even include instruction because it is so intuitive.
This site is basically unusable now
Sorry, guys, that’s not what you should be doing. You should recognize this has been a failure, roll everything back to where it was (I hope your technical team can do this!) and spend another month or two rethinking the new design and doing user testing.
I think everyone can agree that the font color is the worst aspect of this redesign. It’s causing me eye strain to read it. Please, just make it black, or whatever. Is anyone at CC listening?
I hate to pile on but this is definitely not an improvement. You have to scroll down to find anything but if you scroll too far you lose the thread. The top of every forum is filled with pinned posts that used to not be a problem, the bottom of every page shows long blank spaces with “expert advice” and “recent activity” I don’t care about. This one reply - which is the latest in this thread - should be somewhere at the end of the page but my scroll bar shows I am at the 30% point - 70% of this page is taken up with things that don’t pertain to this topic. It’s like someone decided the site should be a game of “find the content!”. In addition there are some incomprehensible design choices - why are the topics I’ve read completely bold faced and the topics with new items are normal font? It’s completely counter intuitive - the things I don’t want to see are the only things I can find easily. Honestly - who approved this and can we talk to them about getting end-user feedback before the next round of “improvements”?
Somehow that streaming video has disappeared! And I did nothing, so perhaps that “functional issue” is being addressed.
@eb23282, thank you. I see my bookmarks at the top right (along with my notifications and mail) and on the right side as well (kinda redundant). I’m on an iPad mini.
The last time I was on a message board where this happened, a virtual hat was passed and a new non commercial board was created by a couple volunteers. It was smaller than this because it was industry focused, but maybe had 100-200 posts a day. Within 6 months, the new board was bigger than the old one we left. I think after a year or 2 the company running the original boards closed them, the only current posts were posted by bots, and the moderators had all left so no one was taking them down. I hope that doesn’t happen here. Having said that, if it looks like they are effectively (albeit I think unintentionally) killing this board I benefit enough that I will toss $20 into the hat for someone to keep it going in a user friendly format…
The new site is even less user-friendly on my android phone. Very hard to find anything.
Well since it seems this new design is not working. Can the Admin roll this back to what we had and try again sometime?
Add me to the list of finding this too hard to use. Have to hunt for the latest posts, long ago posts show up first, not enough on a page, uncomfortable font and layout. (Using an iPad as usual). I have learned much and enjoyed posts over the years but hesitate to read these boards now
I’m still traveling so I’m on my phone. What bugs me the most is having to scroll down to even log in. That just makes no sense.
I also still can’t scroll to see more than six notifications even if I have more.
The white space gives me a headache and I haven’t been able to stay in for more than 30 minutes.
I’m sad.
So I used to go to the diploma /bullseye icon center of any top page, click it, go to college majors then to engineering. Any clue how to do that now? I am on an android phone.
Thx
OK, I figured it out.
