@CCadmin_Sorin
“As things stand I will be coming to CC way less frequently. I’d be happy to give up my Forum Champion position at this point.”
as @happy1 stated in post 465,
I suggest you ask the owners of this website if they can REALLY afford to lose the collective braintrust that has helped build CC’s REPUTATION on the internet over the past 2 decades, as well as new posters who have heard about CC , who with very few exceptions, also do not like the new look.
Because of this extremely poorly thought out “refresh” of CC, MANY long term, committed and highly knowledgeable and intelligent posters have finally thrown in the towel.
If this is what they wanted, then well done!!!
If NOT, then they need to apologize for a VERY poorly thought out revision, go back to the prior version, and then going forward- ASK valued CC contributors for input before making changes to this website!
I joined a few months ago, and like others have said, if this is what it looked like then, I never would have posted. If this isn’t fixed soon, I won’t be back. The current format is unusable.
I didn’t even look forward to hoping on this morning. I feel a little blue, because I’ve really enjoyed this forum board. It may be time for a break.
Didn’t see what?
I’m curious if the Mods and Forum Champions are now finding it’s now harder to do their moderating and championing? While there are fewer posts and posters participating (I think?), is that tempered by the difficulty of now moving around CC?
Have to agree with those sho have described the psychological change that this update has caused many of us. We used to look forward to quick clicks to see what’s new, but now… eh. The motivation to pull up the latest discussions , the quick visual updates about what’s been posted, is gone. Its like a quick fix to eliminate an addiction. “The thrill is gone”. In fact, with very, very few exceptions, the only thread I’ve read in the past few days is this one.
I agree, @jym626. It saddens me that community members are being driven from the site and nobody seems to care. Their departures are like the sudden, unexpected death of a good friend. It used to be fun to come here. Now it’s just depressing.
@notrichenough you make some very good points in Posts #511 and 512. I thought the sole response by CC_Sorin was canned. And, like you pointed out, there were a lot of (what turned out to be) meaningless responses that resulted in very few changes last time this happened.
The mods/forum champions and the longtime posters have the power to force CC to go back to the way it was. But it will probably take something like boycotting the site. Let the (paid) admins roll up their sleeves and do the policing that the (volunteer) mods (and forum champions?) now do. And if the longtime posters don’t check in, there will be all those advertising clicks that are lost.
And if it doesn’t work, and CC doesn’t change? Well, a lot of people will decide it’s not worth it to stay on CC. People are already deciding to leave.
@menloparkmom @intparent @CTTC
Few thoughts on your posts. I wholeheartedly agree that this will push many long term users away. And as many notice the bulk of the activity comes from less than a few thousand users since we can see who has 1k comment badges etc. The majority of people have no accounts and lurk. That means they are here cause of the knowledge long time posters share. So not sure what CC staff have thought on this one. Concerning to see this potentially push a Forum Champion away as @happy1 mentioned but this goes to show how bad this redesign is. Now yes this makes any kind of moderation or even browsing forums very difficult. As I type this the double spacing alone makes this a chore. Am I going to leave and abandon my position as a Forum Champion? Prob not but it will be harder to stay on top of my job with this ill functioning from a UX POV layout. I expect to see massive activity drops especially with regards to new users.
Perhaps concerns should be sent directly to Hobsons, the current owner of CC. They are the ones that funded and supervised the changes. In addition, they just announced a new Senior VP of Marketing, Matt Chan, who seems to have some backround with online design, etc. FWIW, Hobsons also owns Naviance and a bunch of other education related sites. They are on social media and LinkedIn.
And Naviance is falling out of favor in several places too… Just sayin’
But I disagree, @CTTC . We have no power. Just a voice.
So disappointed in this update. Hard to follow, hard to read. I thought the previous layout was just fine!
And rather than just complain, we should start a list of SPECIFIC recommendations the Admins can take back to the software people. I’ll start:
- Bring back the easy to find list of threads within each forum.
- Improve the color differentiation to easily find new posts, pinned posts, etc.
- No white background.
- No double spacing in the text box. MORE?? Copy and paste and add suggestions.
@jym626 Do the admins even have contact/influence with the software people? I agree with your suggestions about making a specific list but I think it should also go directly to the company.

- Eliminate the ad that constantly plays in the top left corner (I've got a post-it on my screen so that I can stand to type this.)
- Keep the menu on the right stationary as you scroll so that you can use it regardless of where you are on the page.
@CTTC. I meant see the changes of the forum. I have been on different forums for years and at least the moderators got a chance to play with the new interface. Yes, it’s horrible for them to help people. Their job is hard enough.
"

Many people already have made concrete recommendations for improvements.
I think for most of us, the continuously playing video is in the right top corner not left.
Yes.
Looks great
I am not a frequent poster but I am a frequent reader and I hate this! Sadly, I have clicked on this site (as my normal reading routine) and quickly clicked off for all the reasons already mentioned. What was wrong with the other version? I guess I don’t understand the need to change something that works. Frustrating.
Yes many have made suggestions, but as we have seen in the 39 pages, many are repetitive and the admins have to wade through 39+ pages to find the many concerns. Better to make it easier for them so there is a slight chance our concerns will be addressed. And IMO, better to complain about the problems than the recommendations/suggestions/solutions
