- Impossible to read. The font and white space is atrocious! (and I won’t get into the double spacing)
- Impossible to find any forum - it feels as if they’re all buried.
- Awful!
- The positive? It’s summer.
For heaven’s sake, don’t take a long, unsorted, unreferenced list and just keep copying and pasting, adding your own, just to come up with some long, random, confusing list. Not all of us have the same problems with the visuals. And, our navigation issues, again, depend on the vehicle.
Of course it’s about the revenue. And any of us are disposable. I don’t fool myself that CC would crash and burn without longtime posters. What they want starts with a continued stream of new people, asking questions, seeing the ads, etc. And the quality of info we provide isn’t about how long we’ve been around. Most of us are amateurs, some have direct experience, but some spend more energy on the Parent Cafe, which really is just a generalized chat room.
Adding: it still looks like a crotch.
Based on things I see in the source, I think they’re using this in some form:
Agreeing with @jym626 that since the change happened, this is the only thread I have read on CC. I haven’t helped anyone. I don’t know what’s new on CC. Too hard to navigate and to even use. Like @jym626 wrote, this might be what breaks my addiction to CC. I imagine that participation on many of the forums has dropped since the change. If CC loses dedicated and knowledgeable members, it will be the blind leading the blind.
- Bring back the easy to find list of threads within each forum.
- Improve the color differentiation to easily find new posts, pinned posts, etc.
- No white background.
- No double spacing in the text box.
- Eliminate the ad that constantly plays in the top left corner (I've got a post-it on my screen so that I can stand to type this.)
- Keep the menu on the right stationary as you scroll so that you can use it regardless of where you are on the page.
- Eliminate everything below the reply box. Posters don't have time to do a slow roll up and down the page to find it.
- Eliminate the video that's constantly playing in the center of the page on phone screens. It makes the page jump several times every time time a new page tries to load.
- Eliminate the white space on the left and right sides of the screen and broaden the horizontal space available for threads so we can see more than a couple of lines of text at a time.
- Reduce the size of the buttons at the bottom of each post ("Agree" --> "Flag").
- Eliminate the leaderboards. We don't care about them anymore than we care about badges.
- Eliminate the poster's personal info. in the header under their name in each post. It's a space waster.
- Move the date/time posted to the top of the post.
- Make it easier to navigate among the pages in a thread.
- Make page numbers visible in portrait mode.
- Save draft button...how hard is that?
- Please put my name at the top of the forum so that when I’m logged on, I don’t need to hunt and peck to find my own profile.
- Please make the push pins some color like red or yellow so they are clearly visible, and keep the pinned pages together at the top of their forums.
- Make the layout smaller with less wasted space so that more threads, and more forums, are listed and visible in each screen. (Similar but not totally covered by #9)
- Fix the app/mobile version so that when clicking the "back" arrow, it actually goes back to where you were, not to the "landing page" with whatever junk CC decided you should be forced to wade through first.
- Reverse the use of bold/not so that "bold" means you have NOT read it yet.
- Fix the email notifications so the same thread gets put in the same email thread, not a separate notification because it's a new poster. Adding:
- Make the type black, not gray. And, for us old eyes, maybe a thicker font would be helpful for readability.
The biggest “feature” I see on this homescreen is the links to the posts by Dave Berry. Big with picture too. Maybe the CC folks really want this to become a private blog.
The crotch/basketball default avatar has been changed!
One of my complaints is that if a new person came here for the first time they would have a hard time trying to find what is available and where to post things. Can you easily find things? Can you see at a glance all that is available? I loved opening latest posts, scrolling through a couple of pages and seeing the titles of lots of threads so I could quickly choose what to look at, what is of interest to me and what I might be able to help with. This just doesn’t allow that. I will say that my eyes cannot look at this for long. The font is too light against the white and I can’t read it. Our e-mail has a white background but is a little darker font and much easier to read. The symbols at the bottom of posts seem to be more important than the posts themselves. The desktop version is better but still bad. I can’t even use this on my iPhone! New people won’t know what is available and may read an article and leave. Is that what you were going for?
I just had an eye exam so I know it is not me. This is difficult to read on my desk top. I can’t find what I’m looking for and the font is too light to read. It is giving me headaches. I’m going to have to go away and just check back periodically to see if it has gotten any better. Good luck.
All these suggestions and the only one we see implemented is changing the crotch logo?? Sheesh!
How different is it from the original?
It seems funny that the one change appears to be a redesign of the basketball/crotch avatar…the least important change…but hey, it is something.
I don’t see any change in the default avatar, and yes, I logged out and logged in. It’s the same pic…maybe it’s a little off center. But it’s the same picture.
^^^I have seen at least two different ones, it is off center now, the midline cuts fully across (horizontally), and the colors have been changed.
Actually, they also restored the ability to upload a picture as a custom avatar, so that’s 2 things.
@skieurope - someone should tell them to revisit their (OUR) priorities (and FWIW, my flower avatar on my home page is still cut off on the right side)
It isn’t just all of the white but the color of white that was chosen. It is too blue and that causes more eyestrain. Flip back and forth between this site and another popular forum, web article, etc and you will see that this site is way too blue. A blue light filter isn’t helping on this new update Look at this screen for 5 minutes and look away. The world will look darker as your photoreceptors are bleached.
1a. No pale grey font please! Too hard to read.

Reposted above with the correction in #5 (please copy/paste THIS list:

You all are fooling yourselves if you think “the list” is going to accomplish anything. About all that has/will be done is having a dedicated thread as a place to complain about the changes.
I highly doubt that TPTB will ever see the things posted in this thread or the list.
And with that, I’m out of here. It’s too difficult to even follow threads in just one sub forum for me and the font and whiteness is giving me a headache. I feel eye strain just trying to read the time stamp.
Now if I can only figure out how to log out!
The only problem with getting in the weeds with this list of changes (which are quite good, btw), is that it implies that if, say, the font was a bit darker and the save-drafts button was re-enabled, all would be well. But the redesign is actually a systemic problem that would be best solved by rolling back to the original site and then testing these recommendations on a 2nd try (which should then go through testing in-house before launch).
Meanwhile, I’m trying not to comment too much because I don’t want to end up on the landing page as a ‘most active’ poster.
